Love it! I'm very excited to hear Dan and Eric again after so long. No one else can play Yugi and Kaiba like those two can. Yugioh's dub was a major part of my child hood, so while I'm hoping they remain faithful to the original content to an extent, I still would like them to preserve the iconic things like the hammy shouting during duels to Joey and Bakura's accent. Of course, if anything dark happens in the movie I wouldn't want them to censor it to hell and back (of course, the censorship and text removals in the original anime were mostly out of 4Kids' control.) |

Delighted to have them coming back. Its been so long! Having any more of the original cast is icing on the cake.

Most American dub fans lost interest after Duel Monsters. Of course the franchise has been going strong all these years in Japan and in the sub community
Yugioh has never not been censored in America so I don't see why they would stop censoring it now. And isn't quoting the dub while asking for no censorship weird? It's disappointing to see this is following in the footsteps of Tri in terms of how the dub is handled. It would have been nice for them to cast new actors who actually sound like the characters for a change. |

It's nice they were able to return. I am curious about the rest of the cast though. VAs like Wayne Grayson (Joey) are pretty much retired nowadays, so they might be harder to get back.
I wish I could be more excited for the dub, but 4K's dubbing style leaves a lot to be desired. But on the plus side, the Japanese version will likely be included in the eventual DVDs/Blu-Rays, if Bonds Beyond Time is any indication. |

Was it really given Pokemon more or less had some of the same changes made to it that Yu-Gi-Oh did? |

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. It's been mostly thumbs up. I guess enough time has passed that the 4Kids hate has died down. |

I actually don't remember that much censorship in Pokemon that was as gracious as the censorship in Yugioh, at least when it was under 4Kids and not the Pokemon Company. There's things like renaming certain Japanese things (Jelly donuts anyone?) that are amusing but more or less harmless. The furthest they went was taking away episodes, such as the infamous Porygon one and the one where James has fake boobs. There's that one scene a riceball was changed into a sandwhich, but I'm pretty sure that happened after dubbing responsibilities switched hands. Heck, I rewatched some Kanto episodes and was surprised by some of the stuff they kept in (Ash thinking the photography guy's camera was a gun, Misty in a Goldeen show girl outfit, everything in Sabrina's arc.) Of course, Pokemon also didn't have guns, nearly naked women, and mentions of death every so often. So whatever censorship and changes that were made were most likely not as noticeable as the finger pointing and the gun becoming a slingshot. I remember hearing an interview where an old employee of 4Kids states that they were forced to make censorship a for the sake of the network (no alcohol, no guns, no sex-anything) and that sometimes when they get the original footage from the Japanese studio that the text on things like books and signs were already removed. Since this a movie and is more or less meant for the fans who grew up with the series since day one, I don't think the censorship will be as bad. At the least they may censor some of the monster outfits, simply to fit with how they look on the actual cards. |

If fans though the 4Kids dub was butchered, have they seen the Singapore English dub? Asian English dubs are probably the lowest quality of dubs.

The Singapore dub was miles ahead of the 4Kids dub. They used the original soundtrack, the original script, and had voices closer to the original for the most part, so no Brooklyn Jounouchi or Skeletor Malik. The main con was the use of American names and acting, but the acting in the 4Kids dub was just as bad. -Stuart Smith |
