Is there any way to either get rid of their ads or make sure they aren't disturbing. Like this:
![]() If some one walked in with this showing on the page I could get into trouble.... -Thanks in advance. |

Yeah, that particular banner is NSFW, and I do come here a bit during work
It's not THAT difficult to turn off images on the site.. but it's kind of annoying since I can't see buttons either. (I mention NSFW because I have a lunch hour, of course I'd never come here on the clock.. that sounds facetious of me but I'm actually serious about it, lol. No way to win here.) |

It's even more awkward when you're reading/showing off a magazine with their full page advertisements.

Well some people can get on here easily at work, it just depends on your job. I can't go while on the job or on break...ah well.
Anyway, I love the "oppai ball" ad as well. Very...enlightening. Doesn't affect me at all and if I'm on campus computers I know to scroll quickly, but it does get a bit over the top. I mean those hello kitty vibrators? That's just an awkward thing to have display on your screen. Maybe be able to turn off TYPES of ads in profile settings? Like a net nanny type blocker, the site designates some ads as not "child friendly" and could just not show those if the option was checked. Of course I don't mean this to be added as a kid friendly device since it would be defaulted to off, but just as an example. Don't know what the feasibility is of trying to do that, but it's the only thing that I could think of. |

I vetted all the ads that J-List submitted, and I didn't find any of those that I allowed onto the site to be obscene (otherwise they wouldn't be on the site). What in particular is it about the above ad that offends you? I take any and every complaint about ads seriously, but those ads have been running for several weeks now, and this is the first time that anyone has complained about them. Obviously though, there are several people who agree with you (they posted here). In the future (no eta) there will be an option that will allow any reader to block a particular ad or advertiser (we figure that if you want to block the ad, it means you wouldn't shop there, so it's to the advertiser's benefit not to spend money showing you the ad, it's to our benefit not to annoy you an ad you don't like, and it's to your benefit not to see things you don't like). In the meantime, anytime there's a complaint, I need to try to figure out whether or not to remove the ad. Some complaints I've dismissed as being puritanical, others have led to the removal of particular ads. Personally, the above ad is no more NSFW than the below DVD and manga covers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I think the point being made is that when someone comes here to browse, they're just reading text. They aren't displaying those manga covers for instance and some of those ads pop up with a few images that aren't something you'd want to normally plaster a workspace in.
I agree in the sense that it's a bit much to display randomly. If I went to a porn site and was surprised to see porn on my screen, I'd be an idiot. I don't care either way but DID notice this earlier. I didn't bother with a topic but since one has been made, I figure I'd inject my own thoughts into it. They're not graphically obscene or in anyway full on nudity but it is something you need to quickly "avoid" displaying on your screen depending who could be around you. They've gotten a few clicks from me out of pure curiosity. A whole new meaning to "Hello Kitty" arises, that's for sure. |

I also do not find the ad appropriate (especially at work). The lineup of girls' butts in thongs is NSFW, and neither is that girl with the crotch shot kick going or the mention of vibrators.
I would've said something earlier, but I didn't know we were allowed to object to the ads. I'm glad somebody feels the same way I do. ![]() |

That's not exactly true, several of those covers have been on the front page when those titles were reviewed, even racier covers have been on the front page due to reviews. My point was that, I don't really see the point of setting the restriction level for ads lower than the level of what frequently ends up on the cover of the material we talk about. The same standards need to be applied across the site, if that ad is unacceptable, then those covers should be removed too. -t |

Mentioning vibrators is inappropriate at work? Sorry, I don't buy that. There would be nothing wrong with reading a BBC article that mentions vibrators, would there? To paraphrase my previous post, if it's okay in a news article, or editorial coverage, it's okay in an ad. Obviously, there's context to keep in mind, but that ad doesn't actually provide any context, it's not like it shows you what to do with the vibrator (and neither does the BBC article), that would be inappropriate.

I don't think its the vibrator part- as thats small text and someone would have to be on top of you before they could read it.
I think its the three butts and (possibly) the girl showing off her panties thats doing the damage. It's odd...J list has two sites- for those over 18 and those under. I know they'd want to advertise the most of the merch they could get away with- but it seems like they could make a banner without the nudity. |

Normally I just glance over the J-list ads just like I do any other ad here, I don't offend very easily. However I can see where this could be seen as offensive in a work situation, especially so in a school situation. I just notice the oppai ball ad that Vortextk mentioned for the first time today and was a little surprised by that. Somebody walking by and taking a quick glance isn't going to be able to tell if it's a real naked breast or a ball shaped like a naked breast (to the creators credit). Most online shops that sell hentai figures will obscure nudity on a figure, how is the oppai ball any different? I think even a news article (at least an American one) would mosaic an image of the oppai ball. Let's face it, people are easily offended, now more than ever it seems. News "reporters" now just describe the news rather than just tell us the details out of fear of offending their readers/viewers. Unfortunately it's a trend that doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

I think J-list is hilarious. They carry all sorts of interesting things. For a long time I just kind of window-shopped there and I remember when I thought paying $50 for a single DVD was an impossibility. I wish I had never passed that threshold.

Yes it is, it's one of the many random J-List ads that pop up here. It shows the oppai ball on the left side of the add with a person poking it. Keep refreshing a page, you'll see it. Emerje |

J-list's ads are really the only ones I tend to feel 'ick' about, but they're not that bad. I can remember a time where I REALLY didn't like one of their ads, but that as a while back. That one kinda annoys me, but I don't think it's bad enough to be taken off the site. Tempest's note about the DVD covers is a good point, particularly.
