At least Rayquaza's getting some love. On that list it's my favorite.
I remember catching him with just 2 ultra balls and thought "yep, I'll never be that lucky again." I save my Master ball for those pesky legendaries with random encounters.

Sad to see Garchomp isn't on the list either, considering it's my favorite in Gen IV. But yeah, Pikachu should step down the throne after all this time.

I hope not, between Greninja becoming even MORE overpowered and it being creepy for Pokémon to start resembling their trainers.

I never expected Drifblim or Vanilluxe to be on the list or anywhere near the top 100, but they're among my favorites.

Well, it's not an actual popularity poll. It's more of a mascot poll. Many Legendary Pokémon are on the game covers because they are intended to be their respective games' mascots. Pikachu is usually the main mascot of the entire franchise, and Greninja can be seen as the mascot of the XY Saga, especially since it significantly gained more prominence after its final evolution in XY&Z. While Pikachu still gained a lot of spotlight outside of the anime, he didn't have that much spotlight in the anime.
My favorite Pokémon is Sceptile, but I don't see it ever becoming the franchise's mascot. And Garchomp is far from being a mascot.
