DJ - The Madoka Magica boards are called "shikishi", not "shitajiki". Shitajiki are made of plastic and are often just called pencil boards. Artists will often draw on blank ones, and they're fun (and often pricey) to collect.

Really loved the original Wake Up Girls show and movie/special/whatever. It's a super underrated little idol show, and one of my favorites on that particular season. Hope we get those two sequel movies at some point.

I don't remember Wake Up, Girls! Shichi-nin no Idol ever being referred to as an OVA. Crunchyroll and ANN have always referred to it as a movie. So, Sentai is absolutely right in referring to it as a movie. And Wake Up, Girls! Shichi-nin no Idol is not the first anime movie under one hour of run time. Remember The Garden of Words? I don't suppose you are also upset with Sentai for selling The Garden of Words as a movie. |

Comparing Wake Up, Girls! The Movie to The Garden of Words doesn't really make a whole lot of sense - even if they're similar in length. The Garden of Words is a stand-alone product and you don't need to watch a 12-episode TV show afterwards to get a sense of closure. Wake Up, Girls! The Movie is clearly just a prequel to the TV show and as James mentions it feels more like a double-length first episode than anything else. It seems more reasonable to compare it to other TV shows that have double-length prequel episodes like Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and as far as I know those two episodes are not being sold as separate movies. |

Thing is, I'd actually be fine just leaving WUG! with the one movie. It seems like there's a tradition in anime and Japanese films about a band that comes together only long enough to play a single concert, and the trials they go through to get there. Linda, Linda, Linda! would be the ideal example of this, but you could maybe loop in White Album 2 as another example. The whole WUG! franchise is kind of threadbare and sincere in its inadequacy, so them just getting them to that first crummy concert -- where they're singing for a handful of bored shivering patrons at a metal festival, and only because another band cancelled -- kind of suits the material pretty well. It's not as feel-good as Love Live!'s μ's spoiler[winning the entire national competition on their first complete try], and that bittersweetness really appeals to me. I think the WUG! movie was my favorite thing for the year it came out, and I wrote a thing on my Tumblr about it at the end of the year. |

To look at the WUG! movie as a prequel is kind of going about it the wrong way, rather the TV show is the sequel to the movie, especially since the movie is essentially episode 1 of the TV, it does a lot of the early set up for the characters in the show and things like that.
Honestly I don't think anyone interested in watching WUG! should watch it without seeing the movie first.

Honestly, my guess is that this release was determined by the licensors, not Sentai. I doubt they would have released it separately by their own volition. I was disappointed to see it released like that, and I think it'll hurt their over all sales. It really is something that needs to be watched back to back with the series. I was fortunate to see it on Crunchyroll as if it was a first episode, and that's really the only way to do it. That being said, I didn't think it was nearly as empty as James either. |

Thats actually not true. 8-10 years ago, I don't remember exactly when but Geneon first released series on DVD unless this is what you meant by licensing drama. Dam I feel old all of a sudden..... Anyways, Geneon successfully released the first 5 out of 6 Volumes but then the company went down under leaving the remaining and last volume stranded. When this happen, it was a big deal because there were several series that Geneon owned but haven't been fully released on DVDs yet. Needless to say, I was pretty worried at the time because it seemed hopeless for a while. Nothings worse than having an incomplete collection. Fortunately though, Funimation struck a deal with Geneon buying the legal rights to a dozen or so titles and subsequently "Rescued" shows including Higurashi with an incomplete release. If I remember correctly back then, Higurashi absolutely tanked in terms of sales having sold less than 500 Copies which definitely contributed to Geneon's bankrupcy but I guess thats another subject for another time. Personally I adore the series including the unreleased season 2 so Funimation did me a favor that I won't ever forget. |

Er, no. It is 100% true that Kai was never released in the US before. You gave the history of the first series, but this is the unreleased season 2 you mentioned at the end of your comment. -Except it's released, now. |

I loved Wake Up Girls! the movie (and the series) but it is definitely not a stand alone film. Its a shame Sentai didn't release everything together. Even in Japan the movie was released as volume 1 of the series and with the same style of packaging as the rest of the series. I've been waiting for this for a long time though so I'm gonna be getting WUG! as soon as possible. Its a shame the release is so bare-bones though. They could have included mini concerts or music videos or even the promos that WUG did for Crunchyroll.

OH YES!! Your absolutely right. This is one of those times where I don't mind being wrong LOL I didn't know season 2 was even released and thought Season 1 was what they were talking about. I got really excited for a moment when I read your comment but then looked up supported languages and got disappointed again. Beggers can't be choosers but its better than nothing at all. Does anyone know the quality and style of the Subs? In terms of accuracy, like is it a literal translation despite sounding awkward or did they go the other route and go with an emphasis on sentence fluency mixing in some Japanese words in Romaji form. Japanese have different connotations in their words and theres simply no way to 100% accurately translate it while going the Literal route without changing the original meaning or keeping all the attached connotations. For example, do you they list Name+Honorifics (Mion-Senpai) or do they replace them with a literal but unnatural sounding, Upperclassman Mion? I would be grateful if someone could answer this question for me. |

How Did Sentai Even Licensed it? Is it because their licenses weren't featured in NHK World's Imagin-Nation? Big deal.
