Phew, for an instant I was fearing I'd see "has passed away" in the 2nd half of the headline.
Just look at how long the man's imdb page is. He deserves all the accolades he gets. |

I was with you on that. Was scared for a bit. Man is a voice acting treasure. |

As much as I love Frank Welker, he is indirectly responsible for dub haters. I bet no-one will critique his work. He's a great VA, but not the best.

Yeah, screw that Paul Welker guy. Who needs him anyway? Now Frank Welker on the other hand? THAT guy kicks ass. |

Frank Welker has the widest range of any voice actor I know. He goes from Megatron to Fred Jones to Jabberjaw to Nibbler and even baby Kermit.

Congratulations to Mr. Welker for winning the award. I enjoyed him as Freddie from Scooby-Doo growing up.

Heh, before I reads the article, my thoughts were that the man's known for way, WAY more stuff than just being in Totoro.
Because of his unparalleled skill in animal sounds and monster noises, he's got one of the longest list of roles in voice acting, if not THE longest. |

Although he keeps falling back on that one strangled all-purpose voice he used for Mr. "Mitzle-plick" on the Superfriends cartoon-- When we got Jar Jar in "Phantom Menace", I honestly thought that was him. I know we have to connect him with the Totoro dub as an excuse for ANN articles, but that was just for his funny Totoro sounds, we can allow that. |

I know him best as Megatron from Transformers and Dr. Claw from Inspector Gadget!
Oh? Why is that? |

Frank Welker is one of the few VAs in any language who has both vocal range and acting ability. When you set the bar that high, there aren't many people who can live up to that standard, and the few that do (Billy West, Rob Paulsen, Maurice LaMarche, Harry Shearer, et cetera) don't usually do anime. Again, a lot of Anglophones like to emphasize the "voice" part of voice acting over the actual "acting" part. |

What Panzer Vor said. People say anime dub haters trash U.S. anime VAs, but U.S. animation VA fans are far harsher. Because anime dub VAs tend not to care about vocal range, the U.S. animation VA fans attack them. They think dub VAs suck compared to original animation VAs. That's not true.

Congratulations on winning this well deserved award, but I still prefer the early Totoro original dub done for Fox by the late Carl Macek. Nothing personal.
