YEAH!
The artists deserve this considering it's their art. Of course if it's like the US, the defendants probably have squat so the artist may see little if any of the cash, but at least it's saying people can't post stuff on the net they have no part in creating. |

Well, I download a lot of anime/manga, but this seams fair to me. Still, what I don't get is how they calculated the comensation. 35% of what?

Go Nagai Go Nagai Go Nagai GO GO!!!! sorry been itching to say that
A ruling in the creators favor, HOLY CRAP!! And going after the illegal distributors instead of the downloaders even, wow, what a novel idea. I know scans will continue, and I know a bunch of people here use scans either out of impatience or it not being picked up in english. Nevertheless it is a step in the right direction, as I am sure they are more concerned with people reading it in Japan, especially Japanese creators. Manga's Japan's NFL j/k |

This is no difference from someone ripping a anim dvd or recording off cable and uploading it on the internet for everyone to download. In other words, fansub are illegal.

This thread seems noticably lacking in the downloaders who support not paying for stuff. This is what I've always supported. Considering how cheap manga is in Japan, there really was no excuse for this to have happened. Most of the manga I see at Mitsuwa is 480-550 yen |

At least the amount the uploaders are required to pay is reasonable. It's much more realistic than RIAA demanding $750-30,000 per song uploaded.

This is why I think what will win in the end is instead of forcing them to pay back costs, is to instead force them to collect money from that point forward and pay them what they are due.
The courts seem to agree with me on what the actual compensation should be. Ah well, in the future, someone will get this right and realize that its probably better to work with people who have done the free marketing for you already and make both friends and profits in the future, rather than being heavy handed and destroying the market that already exists. People may complain that its rewarding the criminals, but quite frankly what the criminals are doing shows what the future will actually be in the end, and the longer they take to embrace the future, the more likely they are to lose out in the end. |

Either way. It's still a huge sum. How are they suppose to collect it?
I hope that the judgement can be lowered during any appeals. |

Why? These two broke the law and they must pay for their crime. |

even though i too want illegal downloads to stop, because they are illegal(but i do download free stuff too, so i really don't want them to stop), i think THIS is the completly wrong way to do that. Not because it might not work, but i think that's pretty hard for people who just want to share their hobbys. It's not like they have evil intentions, they are just 20-30year olds with a full life ahead of them, well, not anymore, saving around ~200.000dollars can take quite some time.
I can't see anything good in this except some artist earning a little money |

And they should earn the money. It IS their work.
>.>; I'd like to report some sites that has been actually scanning licensed manga in the US. I'm really sick of leechers downloading online things that have already been printed and handed out on our store bookshelves. |

HAHAHA you are hilarious, do you know that?
believe me...everybody knows who these people are and where are they located, Is not very hard to google "Scanlation" or "Scanlation groups" or [name of the series here] bittorrent and you will be pointed out where they are.... why in japan?..because they can...you will not hear these news anywhere else, in the rest of the world the manga files are for millions and japan can't do crap about it, but the scan sites where located in japan, where the copyright are strictly enforced. Also, I would like to point it out to stop preaching that "oh scanlations are illegal, authors need to be paid for their job" cause we know, and please dont contradict yourself like this post....
Kibate, I am having a hard time trying to decide if you want or don't want for the downloads to stop, this line is the most cynical post I ever heard in my life... like "Yeah killing is wrong so to fix it, Let's kill everybody that killed before!!!" so pretty much you download so you stated already your position...and you have the nerve to preach it... HAHAHAHAHA |

Good luck to them in collecting it. Most of those who download aren't going to have any interest in buying it. Most of the time the reason people are downloading from the net is because they aren't willing or able to buy it. People tend to forget the whole time = money thing. People usually have one or the other. Those of have the time to spend hunting and downloading manga usually are lacking in the money bit either because of their age or how much they make is pretty limited.
Also in all likelihood while they aren't buying what they are downloading, they probably are buying other related things. How many people are actually saving their money from downloads and spending it on things they aren't interested in instead? So all of this seems pointless to me. But then I'll agree with others who've mentioned that it's not as bad as the RIAA is. |

No kidding. I already knew that. I just wanted to know where I could report them. I could care less about "everybody" else. Glad to have given you a good laugh. |
