As someone who owns the game...
It's not a waste of time. It's actually quite sweet. You can have affection with you sisters and brothers (quite comedically), and the thing doesn't allow you to touch them below the face or anything. It also raises affection points.
Removing this function basically removes any meaning for the My Room castle attachment completely. That's just sad.

Everyone is cross-posting this from Kotaku (not the most reliable source in the first place) despite how fishy the whole thing is. There has to be more to this.

I'm going to completely lose it if they forget to take out the hot springs
After all if you're going to remove every pandering element from otaku pandering; the game: at least we also revived some of the franchise's difficulty as well edition, you really ought to gut the really really obvious feature that has zero bearing on gameplay if you're disabling one that actually does

Want to get an "S" rank with your partner? Well this petting mini game is the only way to do so.

We can rub our Pokemon crotches in Pokemonami but patting your waifu and husbando on the head is immoral. Furry = good, love = bad, got it.
Rev up that CFW because I am sure hungry for that fantranslation.

Wonder if even know their target audience anymore. Cause all they're doing is chopping content and making people less interested in the game. If they're trying to do this so they can stop releasing them western side, then they're doing a great job at it.

I don't trust what Kotaku says. Because they like to stir up controversy. I'll only believe if Nintendo confirms it via other sites or they outwardly state it.
Above all though, it's pretty sad that we can touch a pokemon's groins but not touch a humanoid face.

The west never was the target audience for Fire Emblem. Most of the games never came out over here. The only way to play them since the NES days have been translations.
At this rate we may as well place Fire Emblem in the same category as Dragon Quest. Huge in Japan, redheaded stepchild in America. At this rate there is zero chance of #FE coming over here short of all the women wearing hijabs

All the more reason I'm staying away from Fates. There was absolutely no reason for the petting feature to be removed whatsoever. If there's a reason why Nintendo has gotten this not-so-great reputation of being "kiddy," it's their unbridled censorship spree from the American branch, which has, of course, gotten worse these past recent years.

Not surprised at all. It's probably the fact that petting features in other games (example: Senran Kagura) are used for other reasons...

I doubt it, the hot springs were in Awakening. The only thing that was censored there was Tharja's butt and it ended up looking MORE suggestive.

It was mentioned that you needed to play this minigame in order to get an S rank.
Its now become a lot harder to do so unless they completely redid the ranking system.

Personally, at this point the Fire Emblem series is pretty much dead to me. Otaku-pandering is about as low as they could take the series, and every time they remove embarrassingly objectionable content, it just feels like another shovel-full of dirt on the grave. I'm glad NoA is sensible enough to remove that kind of content, but knowing it was there in the first place just kills the experience.

As far as I know, Fire Emblem has been releasing in the West since 2003, which is 13 years ago. At this point the West has seen about half of the overall Fire Emblem catalog, save for the SNES and NES titles (and even then, we did get the remake of Shadow Dragon).
