i was just wondering why does it seem like when you pr order manga even when the street date hits they still never are in stock or get sent to you till like a week later it seems like they should be in when the street date hits is this a common thing where manga take a while to get to the sellers and all

Most likely the manga in question miss their street date. It does happen, both with manga and with other books as well (as long as they aren't massively huge and have a ton of hype/publicity around their release date).
Of course, it also does happen sometimes that a book will come out before it's release date as well. I was sent a book that I pre-ordered two weeks before it was supposed to come out.
When it comes to the regular releases (once again, not the big important ones), release dates really aren't followed that strictly. I think they tend to be right more often than not, but it is not rare for a book to be early or late.

Most of the book stores in the area I live end up putting out most of their manga out before street date. I was in Barns & Nobles the other day and they had a standee out for the Naruto manga with the release dates on it, which was almost two weeks before the books should have been out, with said books in it.

I don't know if this is common since I don't really buy as much manga, but I pre-ordered MPD-Psycho Volume 2 from Amazon.com and they said it would be available on August 29, 2007 and now they're saying they won't be able to send it to me until November. So yeah, that's a bit worse than a week or two late with release dates.

That delay is definitely abnormal, but one that's a few weeks really isn't. There are so many variables that could put a book behind schedule or ahead of it so yeah, in many ways street dates are more like guidelines than actual rules.

Take the Oh My Goddess manga for example. it's never out on time lol.
As for reserving just remember a store can't give you the product until the release date. As for delays; for starters nothing is certain. A shipment could be not ordered or not enough ordered. Could get sent to the wrong store. Perhaps the person never put your order in the system properly. I typically pre-order manga from the comic book shop I go to. They keep to their schedule much tighter then any big franchise store I've ever shopped at. maybe you might want to try that out if you have any local comic book stores near you.

True, though they sometimes will. Once again, it does depend on what book it is. There are some titles that they will not mess around with.
Also it's not always the store that has the delays, publishers could be slow with something as well.

That's the other advantage of a comic book store or other smaller shop as opposed to a big chain. They'll bend the rules a bit more. Less chances of consequences coming from it as opposed to a main Borders store letting a title out early. I will say, at least by me, manga and anime often might be out early. Not much focus on them. I've seen freaking titles out 2 weeks early before at Best Buy. Most times if early it's only be a week cause generally you get a week's releases the previous week so you have time to set up sale locations etc etc. As I said a smaller store and not a franchise is probably more willing to let something out early. Again as you said depends on the title.

Amazon tends to send stuff before the street date. My friend got the Brave Story book two weeks before it was supposed to come out.
As for MPD-Psycho it didn't come out until the 5th. Why Amazon can't get it to you until November though, I don't know.
I also find the opposite true as for manga and street dates for book stores. Almost all the manga in the book stores in the area I live are out before their street dates. I work at a comic shop and we don't get the items in from Diamond until the correct street date.

Really? The store I get them from gets them early from Diamond sometimes. It's not like a constant thing mind you. But often enough.
