Was this economic journalist writing for the Onion? This sounds like one of those stories that started with someone confusing satire for the real thing.

US$650 million could buy a lot of Type 10s and AH-64s. You know, real weapons.

This will end up like the mine hunting drone.
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/12/11/politics/remote-mine-hunting-drone-fails-tests/index.html There's no way we'll see a full working Gundam in our lifetimes, just save the money or help the citizens in need by giving them $10,000 each. |

Make it happen. I don't care how childish or how irresponsible the spending is.
Just make it happen Japan. |

I'd love to see a life size walking Gundam. I hate that the one we have at Odaiba just stands there looking all smug. But, unless it is privately financed, there's no way the public will endorse it. For that cost, you should have a fully functional mobile suit, capable of actually doing construction work with some ROI.
I'm sure if Hollywood wanted to make one, the stagecraft and proper guys or ILM or someone could come up with a fully functioning display piece for well under 650M. How hard could it possible be to upscale an anomotronic robot in this stage of technological development. (I play with robots as a hobby, so I ask this sarcastically) My personal and slightly OT thoughts on the issue. spoiler[ I thought no way Abe would support this, then I saw the 650M USD price tag and reconsidered, yeah, if it takes that kind of money, money that can easily disappear in paperwork somewhere, I can see Abe giving his thumbs up for it. Let's hope that 650M is private funds, cause the bloody consumption tax is about to go up to 10%, which is suppose to pay for Tohoku earthquake restoration with some of that going towards the Olympics, but will likely go to its new ballooning military budget needs. Sorry, I'll get off my JapanToday commenting and back to anime.] |

I only interested with human colony in space, mobile suit is a killing machine, so nope. If anything make a mobile worker will be possible than make a flashy looking mobile suit. Kurata is a best example what mobile worker should like in real life.

If we can make the Gundam stand up and channel it's power surely we will win re-election. Our plan is perfect, our logic is sound!

I'm sure this will draw harsh condemnation from Korea and China as a sign of renewed militarism. It may spark an arms race. And cause G Gundam to someday come true.

650 Million dollars! For that price the Gundam better be able to do the moon walk and other various Dance moves.

The Republic of Korea Army and People's Liberation Army would probably just place additional orders for real weapons instead of attempting to develop their own mobile suits. |
