In regards to JoJo's release, two big detractors:
I had the DVD pre-ordered at Rightstuf, cancelled the pre-order due to having a lot of titles on pre-order and needing to save some money, so I decided to wait for reviews. Once the reviews mentioned dubtitles, I lost most interest I had in this release. I'm still curious about the English dub, so I may still buy this, but it'd have to be for cheap. ----- EDIT: Also, thank you very much, Shawne, for your enthusiasm and running of such a great company. RS's customer service and packaging configurations for shipping are some of the best in the industry. There were and are still some snags with the system switch-over, as mentioned in the podcast, but your and your minion's responses to people's concerns on different anime sites is very much appreciated. I keep coming back as a customer to RS for a large majority of my purchases because of these reasons. Also, I have not yet been disappointed with a release that you guys have licensed and put out. I definitely feel like you guys put forth your best effort when creating those releases. As a customer and fan of your releases, I just wanted to state my appreciation for your company, employees, attitude, and everything in between. Looking forward to many more years to come. ----- EDIT 2: Yes on more merchandise for series that aren't just the extremely popular ones! As a female fan, a double Yes for more female merchandise as well! ----- EDIT 3: (So many edits!) Anyways, I really love your funny and dorky videos and jokes. I have fun watching those, and I hope you do more. Last edited by Crisha on Fri Nov 06, 2015 3:16 pm; edited 2 times in total |

First off, I'm fine with the Collector's portion of the market.
There are people that really enjoy the extras and having a Blu-Ray in hand faster. I'm happy to see them get what they want. All I've advocated for, and Shawne mentioned, is that there be a wider Anime market release at some later date. It truly raised my hackles to have a vendor say that won't ever produce an wider release because they don't want to serve that market. Mark Gosdin |

On the topic of merchandise - Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but as a female anime fan of over 10 years, I can't say I ever felt like there wasn't enough merchandise targeting female fans. Maybe not big, expensive pieces like $200 cast-off figures or whatever, but jeez, there were always t-shirts, bags, keychains, etc with handsome male characters. And maybe it's hard to track because a lot of that is stuff that's popular with both sexes, like Fairy Tail or Attack on Titan... but I have a hard time believing it was a male majority purchasing Gravitation tote bags or Black Butler hug pillows.
But it wouldn't surprise me if, like how more women buy manga and more men buy anime, that women tend to buy more cheaper trinket merchandise while men are more likely to buy figures and such. |

It's more that in terms of licensed merchandise here in the US, beyond the major brands, the amount of anime merchandise is very limited. Anything below the top tier titles is extremely underrepresented, unless the merchandise is imported. |

We do pass that feedback back to the publisher. However, ultimately it's their call. I think it's a strategic error not to attempt to service all levels of fandom, even if it's a release further down the line for it as back catalog. |

Can't say am surprised about the Jojo release bombing like that. The big issue is it not being blu-ray,along with having no marketing whatsoever. Hopefully WB will get it right with Stardust.

I doubt they'll even bother with part 3 now because of the bad showing with the previous release. I'd like to hope not but they should have let Viz handle it. |

I was not happy to find out that one of their policy changes included pre-charging my credit card the whole amount "to make sure the money was there" and then charging it again for the same amount when my order shipped. I was told by customer service "you should get the extra charges backed off in 3-5 business days." Really? So if I make a $125 order, they'll charge me $250 before they even ship and then I'll have to wait "3-5 business days" to get the extra $125 back. Sounds like I need to find a new place to shop.

Thanks to Shawnek for answering both of my questions. I figured I'd ask in case RightStuf somehow licensed something that would make business sense to do a dub. It was a good answer.
As to the iyashikei(healing anime) question: was just trying to see if you'd give any general new information on upcoming stuff. Well, Persona 4 CE selling out at wholesale a week before the street date is certainly impressive. Sentai should be proud(NGNL also getting a reprint befoe street date is nice too). |

On releasing old stuff:
There's plenty of great stuff that hasn't been released here that has blu ray remasters in Japan. Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura, Kimagure Orange Road (doesn't have blu ray i know)Creamy Mami, Gunbuster, El Hazard, Giant Robo, Cute Honey (new & re:), Lodoss War, Ah my Goddess, the Big O & Yu Yu Hakusho just to name a few. Of course there's anything Macross & Yamato buuuut that'll probably never happen. |

That's sadly true, there is only so much you can do trying to warn them about a potential problem. In the end you just have to stand to one side while the crash happens, then be ready to pick up the pieces. On a brighter note, congratulations on getting thru your software upgrade. I've been thru a number of those over the years ( I'm in IT in the Electrical Distribution Industry. ) and it always feels so good to the get the go-live behind you. Mark Gosdin |

A very informative podcast. I am always interested in hearing about retail information on anime disc sales.
Thank you Right Stuff for releasing Gundam Zeta on BD. I will be sure to pre-order them when they are available. I don't know about penguintruth, but I will easily pay $200 for all 50 episodes on BD. You would get even more of my money if you threw in a nice collector's box. The other Gundam shows that I would buy on BD are 0080, 0083, ZZ, Char's Counterattack and 8th MS Team. On the Utena BD's, I hope your discs have high quality video because I have heard that the Japanese BD's have defects. |

Looking forward to picking up those Zeta BDs
I hope they can dub some of those newer Gundams like Reconguista and Iron-Blooded Orphans when they get up to them, I can understand why they couldn't do it for Turn A given it's age.
I think Sentai picked this one up as a rescue. Yeah, I'd like to see a number of those particularly Giant Robo (that blu-ray looks gorgeous), Cutie Honey, Lodoss, and Big O. |
