Awesome. Finally more manga from ADV and now a new season (probably winter or spring of next year). Ah, its a good time to be a Gunslinger Girl fan.

oh heck yeah! I was about to wet my pants when it was leaked early, but I'm still excited now that the announcement has officially been made.
I'm guessing no word on when it will air or episode counts yet though?

I always thought the first series ended somewhat abruptly, but I thought it was excellent. Hopefully they will equal or exceed the first season.

About time that there's an official word about this. I just about lost it when I read it the first time and then got frustrated when it was retracted. Now that it's official though I think I can finally relax and just be ecstatic!

I knew it, I knew it!!!!!!! Super Awesome. I was a fan from the last year and now Im finally happy to hear about the new season. Now I have all these questions:.... will the new season pick up where the last ended??? Will Angelica still be alive like in the manga?? Will they even keep to the manga and play out the chapters into episodes?????
I guess we'll have to wait, but if anyone finds out anything, let us know, k???
Oh yea, one more question?????.... HOW MANY EPISODES WILL BE PRODUCED??????????
.... need to know.....

I must say that this announcement kicks a great deal of republican faction terrorist butt. Really hope it doesn't get retracted like the last time. I've been really wanting another season for this anime.
*Dares to hope*

Why would you only be motivated to check out a show once a second season is announced?
Anyone wanna bet this won't even involve the same girls, and just be essentially a "re-telling" with new characters?

This is excellent news - Gunslinger Girl is one of my favourite animes. Rico's scene with the boy in the hotel was absolutely heartbreaking.
While I doubt they'd go this route for the second season, at some point I would absolutely love for them to revisit the girls 10 to 15 years into their future (maybe in the form of an OAV) and present it with a hard edge. They're full grown women with minds that can't be manipulated as easily, and maybe some of them are now resentful of what was done to them. Rico would be a perfect example - she's treated like dirt but doesn't mind it because she's alive instead of dead, but if that was just the programming talking she could have a major chip on her shoulder when she grows up. Claes could also have a major chip on her shoulder if she ends up being the permanent test subject and doesn't go out on missions.
Then there would be the girls like Henrietta and Triela who seem to be treated well and like their life. Maybe Claes and Rico decide to escape so they send Hentrietta and Triela after them to bring them back (or hunt them down). It would be very interesting to see how that kind of situation is handled.
For the second season though, I'd like to see all the girls versus a single powerful organized foe. The fear I have though is that they'll just do a season with "Evil organisation makes their own Gunslinger Girls and the two sides face off against each other". That's too easy and has been done way too many times before.
