1) There's also a manga for the first game. I have it.
2) I'm still pissed at the lack of PS3 version in the US (from what I heard, PS3 is Japan-exclusive, not that it hasn't been announced) |

I don't even have a PS3 let alone a PS4, although, should they change their minds about not releasing the PS3 version in English, I might finally get a used PS3 just to play this game (and Persona 5).
I hope that you'll be able to play the battles completely zoomed-out like the previous games, because I like switching between characters on the fly so zooming in on special attacks can get dizzying real quick. (Plus the attacks cease being "special" after the first thousand times you see them, and, considering the amount of time you actually play a Star Ocean game unless you're really speedrunning it, "thousand" isn't much of an exaggeration.) |

Fidel had black hair when this was originally announced. The black hair went great with his blue outfit. But now his hair is the same shade of blue as his outfit and just sort of blends into it. I want the black hair back.

as an RPG gamer.. i'm glad that there are more RPGs to play
and before that they stated that Star Ocean 4 (the last hope) is the last in the series... star ocean series was never great regarding its story or characters but the graphic and gameplay keep me coming back.. i see their characters still kids in their teens... i guess that's one of the difference between east vs west rpg.. it's been a while since the last game.. but i would love to see Grandia series coming back to Playstation. |

Star Ocean: The Second Story is pretty much my favourite JRPG (and, by extension, all RPGs since I really don't play western ones) of all time.
I grew up with Sega consoles and I view the Star Ocean series as kind of the spiritual successor to the original Phantasy Star series, even though the battle system is different, in how there's both futuristic and medieval technology and how you explore multiple planets with many towns on each world (in the second and fourth games at least) instead of just having the ship as a hub between away missions (like in Phantasy Star Online... well, at least the Dreamcast ones; I haven't played the modern Phantasy Star Online games, but, if they're anything like the Dreamcast ones, I'd just find them boring compared to the original Phantasy Star series). I also love the private interactions and how you can manipulate the relationships between characters for separate outcomes. The best game for that (that I've played) is the second one. I think the third one mostly ignored it (although it's been approaching a decade since I last played that one), you got some of that back in the fourth one but not quite on par with the second game. Also, melee battles are my favourite kind of RPG battles for overall fluidity. You can probably easily guess that I also enjoy Tales series games. |
