Ok,during these past few weeks, I've been watching alot of Anime Rant videos on Youtube describing they're thoughts on how Anime has been going these past few years,.most people beleive that theres not enough effortt into making good Anime anymore and most are just rushed out to make a quick and easy buck by putting in a clitched plot thats been done beforemshows such as Naruto, Bleach, MAR, or Busou Renkin.

however, in my opinion, I don't think alot of Animes today in recent years have gone like that,sure there are some bad animes and some good animes with alot of effort like Madlax, The Third:Girl with the Blue eyes

However,it is true that today your seeing alot more anime everywhere than back than from the early/Mid 90's before you saw it everywhere in every single book store/Torrent site, Magazine Rack,ect.

However,heres my 2 cents on this issue,also in my opinion,there still can be some good anime today which can have alot of effort put into it,if you can get pass the long running mainstream ones like Inuyasha or Naruto

for example,three of my current fav Animes from my top 10 fav animes, and still my favs Ultimate Muscle, Cardcaptor Sakura and Tokyo Mew Mew, yes,some of them were plots that have been done before,but I think these were unique to the Taste,

so,in conclusion,no matter how Mainstream some animes get today,I'll never get tired of Anime. Laughing

I have no idea what you are asking.

Your main point seems to have something to do with a connection between anime becoming mainstream and it being good. However, this is completely ridiculous because you are talking about it being mainstream in a culture which is not the one that makes it. So anime being mainstream or more mainstream in the West has no connection to the quality of what's being made, since it's not made in the West!

The only actual effect this could have on anime production is an awareness by anime studios that there is an international market, but that's still has nothing to do with what you are talking about.

I think anime has been popular in the US for many years. I'm 23 and I've been watching anime since I was a kid and talking about it with friends. I think what you've been seeing more lately is the easier access to the products due to the internet.

I think it also has some to do with the fact that it's openly admitted as anime. Some of the things that was on in the 80s and early-mid 90s we anime, but we didn't always know it because there wasn't a noticable mention of it being made outside the states, as opposed to when Toonami came about and flat out said it's from Japan, kinda giving a people an idea where to look, which the internet helped some.

That's not the entire reason for a more visable popularity of anime, but maybe a contributing factor.

I would have say that Anime is absolutely still growing in popularity in the US.

I'm pretty sure that this years convention attendance for all the major venues has been record making this year. More people are becoming interested in anime.

The cult feeling of being into anime like it was back in the 90's is pretty much gone.

On the other hand it is pretty neat to see anime DVDs in BestBuy, next to a season release of Law & Order. ( they are not really that close, I'm just saying they are in the same store is all)

But is Anime as main stream as say video games? I would have to disagree. Anime's presence overall in the American market is still somewhat small, growing, but still small.

Until some major Hollywood actor or actress shows up in a commercial during a prime-time show on one of the major networks, endorsing a new release by (insert US Distribution compnay here) we are not mainstream yet. lol

Is anime mainstream?

I don't think so. Since it's not quite as commonplace within American society compared to other media.

However, it is much more mainsteam than it used to be. Things like Cartoon Network, and primarily, the Internet (Al Gore notwithstanding) have opened anime up to millions of people.

Case in point, 14 years ago at the first Otakon, there were like 350 actual attendees, last year 22,302, which is an increase of over 6300%

These title are all manga originalll. Many anime fan here fail to realize their favorite series are usually an adaption from a manga/novel/videogame. They are similar because they are influence by shounen title of the past. It's like saying horror movie have the same cliche plots and elements. If you want more creative title, stay away from action shounen, it's not hard.

These title are popular manga title, that got adapted into anime for the Japanese audience. Manga and anime has always been popular in Japan. I don't know whether or not that anime becoming mainstream has anything to do with manga being created and adapted into anime for the Japanese.

Originally created anime are still pretty original: Samurai Champloo, Wolf's Rain, Speed Grapher and so on. Also there are title that are adapted from manga that are really original and unique such as Beck and Mushishi.

Anyways, learn more about the fandom before generalizing from the small sample you have view.

What about it? Is it more popular than pre-year 2000? Of course it is, anime has been growing since the dragon ball and pokemon days. Now a days a lot more anime are shown on TV. Cartoon are using anime style. Anime DVD are growing with bigger selection. What more do you need to know that anime is becoming more popular. As for mainstream, it depend on what type of mainstream are you talking about. Everbody in the comic fandom know what anime is and popular videogame anime title like Pokemon and DBZ still sell extremely well. However it hasn't reach a point where the majority of the popular lation know what anime is yet, but it's getting there.

So in conclusion this makes no sense at all. No matter how mainstream Linkin Park gets, I'll never get tired of Linkin Park. No matter how mainstream Videogames get, I'll never get tired of Videogames. You get what I'm saying? Just cause something is overexposed to the public, it shouldn't affect how you should like or dislike it because it shouldn't directly effect you. However If you over-exposed to it yourself, than you'll eventually get tired of one day,

It's "mainstream" enough such that there's an anime convention in every metro city in the US -- and in smaller US cities.

Even if it were made in the West, popularity has no connection to quality. The 'best' show may not be the most 'mainstream' show.

...Why? Why would anyone willingly subject themselves to watching mind-numbing YouTube v-logs week after week? Don't think anything these people say has any more credibility than your average Joe-shmo forum or chatroom poster, especially since the type of people drawn to V-logging tend to be extremely annoying attention mongers.

That is true. BUT! If anime was really all that mainstream, I wouldn't have to carefully explain my hobby to people. And I wouldn't have to have them say "isn't that for kids?" or "Isn't that porn?"

We may be spreading the word, but, no, it's not that mainstream. Sopranos is mainstream. I may have never watched it but I certainly have never had to have someone explain it to me.
