No, no, no. Using advertisements and signing events is one thing: ads run in the "social background", as it were; on billboards, in the radio, etc. Signing events are "go in, get an autograph, maybe a handshake and/or a picture, and you're out".
This, however, is investing time (both work- and personal-) on one or two people who repeatedly purchased the same product multiple times. It is basically the artists selling themselves to promote their music, instead of selling their music to promote themselves. |
This is the future of idols AKB's manager was speaking about in an article a few years back. All marketability and little to no talent, they'll have to sell themselves even to the point of their bodies to get ahead instead of selling their music to get ahead. It's sad, that it has to come to this low point.

What the heck, you don't even need to get any coupons to do this? |
Sorry, I should've made that more clear. It's a karaoke session with other fans and the group.

I do question if they even like singing/dancing, or they're just whoring for fame. They don't even look that good. -.-
This is why people think that society keeps falling lower over the years.

There's been a lot of this "charting or disbanding" ultimatums in music lately - it's just how like the music industry has been the last 20 years or so, just now they're telling it to your face. No one spends any time or money developing talent anymore.
These poor girls! They're locked in contracts - even if they didn't want to do this hot spring thing they're contractually obligated to go by their label. Idol-dom is so sad.
