Kind of surprised you wrote this review without using the phrase "food porn."

Second episode starts, and within 5 minutes Kirin does both the Shaft head-tilt as well as the approaching-towards-the-camera-from-the-farther-end-of-the-table semi-crawl. Gotta love Shaft for that. Cool

I think that the Yuri undertone in the show (at least AFAICT) are not actual Yuri tones, but more of making-my-first-friend ones; Ryou has more-or-less lived alone since her grandmother's death and didn't had much of interaction with other people aside from her aunt (Shiina thought Ryou acts weird at school since she gets very focused, thus turning people away), while on the other hand Kirin, although living with both of her parents, seems to feel somewhat lonely since she's an only child (additionally, her behavior, manners and lines suggests that she can't make friends at her school either). Now we have this situation were two friendless people bond and make their first friend, and are trying to keep the bond as strong as possible. At least that's my take on the matter. Smile

A small addendum to my main paragraph would be that if you take the sensuality of eating the food as a show-encompassing element rather than as character-interaction one, it'll be easier lessen the Yuri tones that some people might otherwise see as prominent. (As evidence, Ryou's aunt, Akira, also gets an "erotic eating" moment, despite not being part of the "friend circle" of Ryou and Kirin).

The Hidamari Sketch picture made me realize all the similarities between Gourmet Girl Graffiti and Hidamari Sketch: slice-of-lifes animated by Shaft, art students living in an apartment complex, lesbian undertones.

Love the Hidamari picture too, crab fried rice is good stuff.

This is going to be fun.

I've been a fan of cooking anime ever since I saw Yakitate Japan, so I'll definitely give this a watch.

Yeah, could tell from the promotional art. Sooo...for those lonely winter nights, I guess. Definitely seems like harmless fun, if that is your kink.

Haha it's true. I pretty quickly came to the conclusion that this was softcore food porn, prepping us for the hardcore stuff in Food Wars next season.

I started this on Crunchyroll without having seen the promotional ads, & wasn't prepared for the...eating scenes. I like the rest of the show well enough to keep going & try to ignore it, but holy shit am I sick of having to ignore crap like this whenever I want to watch a show about girls hanging out :[

Same here. My first reaction was that this will be a "warm-up" for Shokugeki no Souma.

Otherwise, I find it to be a nice and relaxing series and a nice break between action-heavy shows.

I did like the 'talking to the camera' sections like a cookery programme.

The shots of the girls 'enjoying their food' definitely seem to have been toned down a bit from the first episode, and really I have no problem with them as they are now. After all, good food IS sensual to some extent.

My main problem with this show is that I have little or no knowledge of what they're eating, but dammit if it doesn't make me feel REALLY HUNGRY to eat those meals.

And now we have an episode entitled "Crispy, Dripping". Haha! This show is good and bad in all the right places.
