Sonic needs to be retired, it's all failures and stinkers when it comes to games these days. You have the Phantasy Star games which are all decent or good and the Yakuza titles which are mostly decent then you have Sonic which hasn't had a decent game since Colors and a good one since Rush Adventure. It's obvious Sega can't do the franchise justice so it's time for Sonic to walk towards the sunset so we can get some decent games like Border Break or a new Alex Kidd game.

I highly doubt that Alex Kidd is going to make a comeback.

Sonic has become what Bubsy was from the start: A washed-up parody. Of itself.

Sega are really scrapping at the bottom of the barrel. Why not sell the rights of Sonic franchise to Nintendo?

After what happened on the Wii U version of Sonic Boom, I think Sonic and Friends' days are numbered...

In fairness it was Big Red Button Entertainment that made this so not Sonic Team itself so their main development team was not responsible for this one.

True. Big Red Button was entirely in charge of the actual development of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, so it's obvious that the Sonic Team has no part in any of it.
Still, thanks to how Big Red Button developed the title really poorly, it only further damaged Sonic's already-tarnished reputation.

Something I think is worth pointing out is that Sonic has been seeing great success on mobile platforms, between Sonic Dash, Sonic Jump, Sonic Jump 2, and the recent HD remake of Sonic CD. It's no surprise that Takashi Iizuka now considers mobile platforms a major pillar of this franchise.

Hey now, I really enjoyed Sonic Generations.
What's doing Sonic in as a franchise is its thoroughly toxic fanbase. It's shattered to subatomic pieces, with each faction having its own pretty specific ideas about what Sonic should be, most of which are mutually exclusive from each other and nearly all of which would be unpalatable to anyone but themselves. SEGA's biggest mistake is trying to please them.

After Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom, I can say that there are a lot of Sonic fans who would consider Nintendo the last company they'd want ownership of Sonic handed to, especially considering the flurry of fury they created each time Sonic was announced for a Super Smash Bros. game.
Well, between that and fans who never grew out of the 16-bit console wars and have maintained that grudge against Nintendo since.

And so, there was a global shrug of disappointment from the gaming world.

Oh, yes. I can only wonder how well...or worse...Sonic will fare a decade from now.

Not interested, give me another console game like Colours or Generations, or even Lost Worlds since that potential and I will buy it, screw the naysayers.
