I happened to load the page when there was 40 seconds left. It jumped from 1000 to 2500 in the last ~20 seconds. Really cool.

I assume this dual-wielding Amiibo of Samus is a rare case of an oversight?
Well, as long as the bidder that buys this defunct but seemingly rare product is really satisfied, I suppose the $2,500 price tag isn't too big of a problem for him.

Some of the people who buy these things expect to sell them later for profit. This may be an overkill. If that happens to be his plan and a few more of these surface, then he's made a bad deal.
Nintendolife just reported a legless peach figure was found.

I thought this was a case of someone with way too much money buying something for its comedic value, and a way to show off to one's acquaintances.
You know, like how tins for children's heroin pills or Action 52 for the NES sell for ridiculous prices. There's no way you could possibly flip either of those for an even higher value than they already go for--it's become pretty much a trophy.
But yeah, stuff like this depends on their perceived scarcity. If more of them show up in the market, their value takes a nosedive, just like what happened when more Evilsticks were uncovered or when the Medieval Madness pinball machine got a remake.
