I am ok with this. I like this a lot.
Johnny's role as Koizumi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya immediately comes to mind when I imagine him voicing Makoto. That warm-hearted kind of voice he uses with Koizumi will definitely marry well with Makoto's similar disposition. I dig this. WHOA! I did not see that coming!
So much for pure Ouran HSHC cast~ Thank goodness its not Vic Mignogna or Todd Hakerborn. Johnny YB is obviously one of my favorite VAs so I look forward to him voicing my favorite Free! character. Rin's VA is next (please let it be Eric Vale) then Haruka (please let it be Aaron Dismuke) and the rest of the cast should be announced on Friday. |

Also, I really like that Funi is giving Free! the careful attention it deserves by receiving talent outside of Texas.

 Johnny Yong Bosch was my choice for Haru!! Oh well. He'll be fine as Makoto too. 
I just hope we don't end up with Bryce Papenbrook for Haru or something ridiculous like that. |

I'm just going to echo what previous people said and say that this is going to be interesting... I'm not a fan of dubs but because this is Free!, a series I really REALLY love, and because I'm curious, I'm looking forward to some dub clips. I have no idea about any of these voice actors but I still want to see how they do it.

I like it. Makoto is hands down my favorite character so it makes me happy that Funi cast a voice actor that I love! I only had kind of an idea of who I wanted as Makoto (I was thinking Christopher Bevins like how he handled Yogi in Karneval). Interesting cast so far.
On another note, I saw someone pitch out Jerry Jewel as a candidate for any of the boys and my mind blanked out from how awesome that would be. I haven't heard him in a show in the longest time. |

Unexpected, but awesome choice! Makoto is my favorite character from Free! and I like Johnny's voice acting as well.

I hadn't thought of that role, but you're absolutely right! I was thinking of his more recent portrayals and couldn't quite picture how he'd fit such a soft-spoken character as Makoto, but now I feel confident in this.
