And I thought the subject of periods was a no no even for anime.

I liked it but as I said previously, I was only convinced to buy it once I watched season 2. Still, the non streaming OVA was worth it, seeing how that is the episode where... why wasn't that a spoiler? That was Shido applying those Dating Game skills in order to get rid of a target rather than capture and perfect OVA fodder for its nonessential and premise reversing nature.

The newest part, the "even if you saw this streamed, you will not have seen this" part of the release? Oh well, I was surprised.

And even with the presumed staleness of that three date/sitcom hell episode {none of them acted remotely human which was a source of humor for me}, it still had one of my favorite anime sight gags with Origami and the pigeons.

I never questioned Kotori's position as Rataoskr's head as the little sister holds a special position in these games from sacred idol who helps draw in the prospects {such as Amagami} to occasionally becoming one herself when it turns out she's not blood related {too many too count}. Check and [spoiler].

I'm not even a fan of the games, I've just seen too many shows based around them.

Also, its seriousness was always lurking underneath the surface, from its NGE-like warning signs and precaution drills to the very simple fact that every spirit {except one} is a mass murderer. And yes, some more than others.

What I find the most interesting thing about the Date a Live series {and why season 2 finally convinced me of its worth} isn't so much that it asks or answers the question of "Now what?" after the desired Harem Ending but it shows what happens when people pulling the strings {you could think of them as "writers"} forget there could be something after it.

For a comparison, I'd say a show like Infinite Stratos is built around ignoring it completely.

I bought it on a whim. I was in a spending mood and it looked interesting enough to me. I was quite pleased with it overall and have been meaning to eventually watch season 2.

While the show isn't with out its faults, I thought it did a pretty decent job as far as being a harem. It was just slightly different enough from the ol "we're all in the same club so lets fawn over this guy" formula, that I didn't feel like I was watching the same thing over.

If you're going to watch 2nd season I suggest you wait for the BD. They cut out a lot of parts in the TV/streaming version that the BD version has a total of about 40 minutes of extra scenes and the flow of the BD episodes are much better.

One thing about this review I want to mention is that he said the OP sounds good on it's own, but doesn't seem like it fits the series it's for. He probably doesn't know, or realize, that the OP was specifically made for this series, the song is literally called "Date a Live".

I do have to say that the author of the review didn't quite get what "Date a Live" meant. The show had a serious undertone that took center stage at times. To me, the OP Matched the show perfectly.

Currently, the most popular character on the series wiki is Kurumi. She's got over 1000 comments.

I'm thinking you don't know what the word "eponymous" (used in the review in reference to that) means, then.

I was, of course, well aware of that fact, but the song being made specifically for the series (as most are) doesn't necessarily mean that it's a good fit for the series. When songs are well-tuned to their series, I do laud their praises.

And to clear up one other point that came up: yes, there are definitely signs all along that the series wants to be taken seriously in some respect. And that's part of the problem. It wants to be grimly serious but also completely ridiculous, and making those two work cohesively is very difficult. Didn't think it happened here.

I will also add that my rewatch of the series for this review did improve my opinion of it a bit, as I apparently either missed or didn't appreciate some of the humor the first time around.

Good, fair review, although I enjoyed it enough that I would probably give it a B-. It ain't that great, but I still find it entertaining and enjoyable. Plus I love the character designs (the reversible art is one of the reasons I want the LE). I actually found the episode where Shido has to juggle 3 dates really funny. I really like the opening, even though it does sound a bit too serious for the series. (that said, as long as I like the song I have no problems if it doesn't really fit the content, hell it may make me like it even more.)

BTW someone mentioned that the DaL 2 blu rays add more content. As in longer episodes, or bonus episodes? I remember some episodes of the tv version had some animation issiues.

I watched a few episodes. I like the char design and thought a lot of jokes were funny (funnier than some other harem I watched, anyway, IMO), but the concept is a bit silly... I'll probably get around and watch the rest sooner or later.

The series wasn't that bad, but I lost all desire to own it after watching a few episodes of season 2.

I'd say the series started off very strongly, but after raising some interesting questions with Tohka, the series proceeds to ignore them completely; that's not unusual, but things like her not having a name or even knowing much about herself are made out to be important and then the other spirits turn out to share none of them. Hell, the entire spacequake concept itself feels like it's become unwanted baggage by the beginning of season 2.

I can't say the episodes themselves were bad, but the overarching plot just doesn't fit together as it should. It's like the author got bored of the original concept but was obligated to continue the series or just wanted to keep using the characters.

Season 2 introduces the twins, while hot, do little to save the show from considering watching it till the very end. Dropped after 3rd episode of season 2; season 1 was 'aaight" but yeah, kinda hard to take seriously at times. Good char. designs and the OP is nice. also "Date a live what?" Razz
