Ok, so I really liked the anime. I thought it was cool how were lead to think Kyoshiro is a wuss, but he's actualy really a badass. And Benitora is one of my favorite characters too.

Anyways, I knew there was a manga out for this, but I just never gave it any though. I thought that they would have been finished with them long ago. Then when I was at a book store I saw the latest volume, and it was volume 22. I was like "holy crap"! They're are at 22!? So whats up, does the manga continue from where the anime ends? That would be awesome. Or did they just leave a lot (and I mean a lot) of stuff out of the anime, because 22 books is a lot of story.

I watched the anime a while ago; but if I can remember correctly, starting from episode 1 it was quite different from the manga. The characters are all there but there's many liberties taken with the story. It the typical treatment when the anime is produced while the manga is still running. But if you liked the anime you would enjoy the manga.

On another front, the manga ends at volume spoiler[39].

The Samurai Deeper Kyo manga is my all time favorite manga series, and it hurt my heart to see what they did to it for the anime.

Really, the anime and manga are nothing alike. Instead of trying to follow the manga, all they did was take the basic concept, a few scenes, and the character designs of the manga and then totally reinterpreted and changed everything to make their anime.

I never understood why. I always thought SDK would have been right up there with Bleach or Inuyasha if they would have just done the story in the manga - excellent, insanely popular, and very long running.

So it's not only American execs that make stupid decisions regarding programming!

And they are only a little over half done. Sadly, Tokyopop is releasing them quarterly, so it will be nearly five years before we see the end here in the U.S. I stopped reading around volume 19 and decided I'll re-read everything and catch up when its about time for the last volume to come out.

You dropped at 19?
How?
My goodness, it's been so good with Hotaru & his brother Shinrei fighting(can't be a spoiler if it;s on the back of the book, can it?) I may be dropping most of my shonen & shojo titles to keep up with all the yaoi they're putting out, but I'm not dropping this one nor will I pass on GetBackers. InuYasha will be around in 5 yrs, maybe 10 & Viz doesn't have the publishing issues TP does (Look for some of the TP volumes. Good luck. It doesn't seem they go much for 2nd ptintings on some titles or something. I ordered Hands Off 7 anout a month after it came out & was informed it was cancelled by the manufacturer. Thank heaven I found a copy elsewhere. I know someone looking for Planetes 3. I figured I'd finish Dream Saga someday. but can't locate Vol 4.)

If you pay attention to the anime it says it's an alternate telling in the narration of pretty much every ep-an alternate history. Migueria is anime-only. The anime was tackled early-on in the manga, so they went with telling an alternate story than following the manga. The anime stands well enough on it's own, but seriously pales compared to the manga.

I'm still buying the volumes as they come out, I just haven't been reading them. I'm not going to try to hunt down something 3-4 years after its been released. And its less painful to my wallet to buy it slowly than to buy 15+ volumes at once.

Oh well, I let volumes pile up from time to time. It gets hard to remember all the details when htese things are coming out every 3 or 4 months. I don't call that dropping a title.
I stopped reading Shonen Jump when Faust left Shaman King & finally decided to get going again after what-3 yrs? That's only about 30 volumes to catch up on.

Neither do I. I call that waiting or putting it on hold. Which is what I'm doing with SDK along with 3-4 other series. I was doing it for Angel Sanctuary but I've started re-reading it now that the last volume is about to come out.

samurai deeper kyo is a waste of your life
i dotn mean to offend any one but whats so interesting about some bad a** guy killing huge amounts of people the say way over and over
the only cool part was like the first 5 volumes when all the chars were getting introduced and when it was actually cool seeing the main char kill stuff but its so repepative
i think his name is benetaro, i haven't read SDK in forever, but, is he the one with the long stick with knife at the end. anyways, in like volume 3 or 4 he rips someones heart out and yeah, it was awsome, i read to like 10 waiting for something like that to happen and it just didn't.
thats why i gave up on that series
