It figures that that's a major reason for all these contract disputes lately. Amazon really can't take much losses with their razor thin (for a company their size) profit margins. |

Pretty funny to me since everytime I look at anime, they have it 50% off...even new ones. http://www.amazon.com/Evangelion-3-33-You-Redo-Blu-ray/dp/B00GS1DM2S for example

They basically use a pricing algorithm, so it always varies. They seem to prefer very high turnover than profit margin but sometimes prices can suddenly jump low to high. My guess is that it's based on the rate of replenishing stock, assuming constant demand. It seems like only popular titles with large supply get heavily discounted, as I do see higher prices at amazon on other anime titles. Currently Attack on Titan part 2, Limited Edition BD: http://www.amazon.com/Attack-Titan-Limited-Edition-Blu-ray/dp/B00KU3Y5FI/ is only 11% off MSRP |

Amazon sells most of their Anime DVDs and manga well below the suggested retail base price for the public. We smaller businesses get that same DVD, "Evangelion: 3.33 You Can [Not] Redo - Movie", for the wholesale price of $17.99, and are expected to sell it at $29.98. How are we to sell it that $29.98 or $20.19 when Amazon or even Walmart sell it way below the base price, to the point they are offering it at a wholesale price to the public? We can't compete with that which is why several of us generally stay clear of DVDs and in some cases manga(I always check if Amazon doesn't have it or are selling it below the base price before sorting out the said volumes). Oh here is the link to the Evangelion DVD although you can't view the wholesale price if you aren't a registered retailer with them. http://www.aaaanime.com/item/DVDs/FN09877.html |

Some one needs to tell that to game companies... digital copies should be less expensive. And I mean initially, not like 3 months later when steam decides to put it on sale. |

I think this is less "weighs in on" and more "takes advantage of".
@SilverTalon01: You're talking about a completely different market; people who drop big bucks on upgrades on a regular basis and pay premiums for things that *glows* tend to have different priorities(like nownownownownow). That's not to say that we won't see the ebook market go the same way, but it'll definitely be a lot less blue. |
