It's not that Tenchi "forgot" so much that he was never made aware of it by anyone, not even his father, and Tenchi and Noike's engagement was forced by the powers that be as a pretense so Noike could watch over the Tenchi household, since all the women in Tenchi's life are considered a powerful and dangerous force when altogether.
Of course, I realize none of this probably means anything to you, I'm just pointing out technicalities that were spelled out in the series.

There's no great mystery here. Tenchi was an anime original creation, and the man who foots the bill wins. Either Kajishima was unable to leverage a percentage of the rights (this is dependent on the creator's clout and perceived importance to the project's success, not to mention his own business savvy), or he passed on the opportunity for more money upfront.
AIC controls the property and decides what gets made/what is official, regardless of any creator disputes behind the scenes (and this isn't uncommon on long running TV franchises that go through multiple head writers. Early show runners might publicly denounce later seasons, but their opinion carries no official weight). Ultimately, any debate on the appropriateness of a writer's work is purely academic.

Hey it's been what 11 years since I was at the old AIC BBS, Hell I was maybe one if not the only one asking AIC to start an English language BBS before then. (My start date here is shortly after AIC closed their's down.) So My memory of what was written and reported is a bit hazy now and I surprised at my age I still remember any of it. I do know Kajishima wasn't too renown for being a take charge Alpha male type director/ producer, more the quiete reserved type what doesn't socialise much out side of work and home and yes Hayashi co worked on it when they were making the first OVA, but the idea first sparked in Kajishima's head long before then when he was also working on El-Hazard, though it seems the Encyclodedia here is missing that info. I noticed in the Encyclodedia that there was yet another OVA attempt in 2005 called "Final Confrontation". That one snuck by me quietly like, but reading the plot summary It looked like a vain attempt to fix the mess of the ending of OVA 3, but just made it worse. He's just adlibbing it and I've moved on.

Too bad I wasn't into BBS at all in those days or I would've loved following along on that spot!

I wish I could be excited but Ryouko's original English voice actress leaving absolutely killed this franchise for me. I loved the first two OVAs, Universe, and two movies. Everything after that sucked.

Of all the OVA Season 3's flaws, Ryoko having a new English voice actress was the least of them. A deal couldn't be worked out and Petrea Buchard couldn't come back, so what was Funimation supposed to do, have Ryoko be mute? It amazes me how fans still let this bother them the way it does (Mona Marshall neither sounded that out of place from the other actors, nor was it bad acting in general), and it confuses me how some seem to think this'll affect all future series as they're made in Japan, especially considering there's no complete guarantee that this new series will get a future dub (assuming it gets licensed for streaming to begin with).

No different from regular animation fans complaining that their favorite VA who's done the same character for over 60 years isn't doing it anymore.
