I'm actually glad they are deciding to tackle the actual problem. This law was long overdue but I was afraid it would only come with everything else in their imperial agenda attached to it. I'm glad I was wrong.

Because that's what the Otaku like, and that's what an industry that has devolved into mostly being a niche provider does.
If you think the common Japanese man/woman is ok with this ecchi and hentai involving children you're sadly mistaken. It's a niche and unfortunately it's a powerful niche.
Any adult man/woman that gets excited reading ecchi/hentai involving children is just a sick piece of shit and either needs medical attention or be thrown in jail.
If a creative industry cannot survive doing away with ecchi/hentai stories/animation involving children then it's time to let that industry wither away. Or better legislate it out of existence. |
I think its hilarious how some who realize an industry isn't targeting them blames whoever is the target audience. "OMG, video-games have so fallen since the good, old, glory days. Its because its all mainstream crap now." "Anime has now devolved since the good, old, glory days when anime was targeted at me, its because its a niche market now." and so on... Personally, I blame hipsters, the new generation, old school fans, western influence, Logos, Imperialism, pseudo-intellectuals and Gundam Wing.
I see your next point, being excited by such content is wrong and we should prevent people from having thoughts that might be dangerous. I think a system that monitors people's thoughts and prevent crimes before they occur needs to be put in place; something like that can't possibly go wrong. In the same vein, people who get excited by violence are also sick, therefor, any work featuring violent acts that are depicted to be cool, glorifying and/or exciting should be banned. Same logic, different target, same conclusion. Though given the tendencies of moral crusaders to actually only use their logic on things they don't personally like and consider everything else an "exception to the rule", I don't expect you to agree. "It's different." right?
Ah, legislate it out of existence. Its how I like my free speech too: Only allow things I personally agree with regardless of the presence of actual harm or not because lol I think those drawings are gross.

I'm afraid that this will restrict anime/manga/eroge even further in the final draft, regardless what they tell the public; so there's no way I'll approve of this bill.

F*** no, we don't need a ********** Sybil system!
People like things you don't like, what you (and others) believe is sick and wrong may not be the same for other people no matter how many people are disgusted, get over it and move on. I bet very wealthy individuals who love the real stuff don't give 3 s**** about this bill since money = IGNORE ME! = arrest the poor guys instead.

So I assume this means all those weird photo books of naked child models they used to publish are officially outlawed?

If I understand this correctly, this bill has not yet passed and so the maganzines are still legal.
If the bill is a similar bill that we have here in the west, then those magazines will still be legal even after the bill comes into effect.

There's not that much at all, man. We could honestly use more. Can't remember the last time an actual loli hentai got released. NTR seems like the big thing these days. |
What?

Glad to see the Japanese government going after the real problem rather than images an artist created that isn't real.

Used to publish is the operative term here. The sale and distribution of those was covered under the old Child Porn law, ownnership shall be covered under the new law.

For all of you posting about loli anime and manga you need to know something.
Child porn laws include characters that are 17. If the law included anime and manga it would effectively outlaw anything with sex or nudity with high school age characters.
Please be aways of such details in considering your posts.

Fictional is fictional. Don't mix reality with fictional. Otherwise, you're in the wrong [expletive] world.
All hail Japan!

For those of us who generally avoid shows about high school, this could be a positive consequence. Or they'll just continue show the same tired hijinks but put the stories in a college instead.

Thank you for posting that information. I was wondering what the age limit was for these laws.

What is "this"?
The law being discussed here will not have consequences for anime and manga.

Because if they did include manga & anime to this law, there would've been extremely catastrophic consequences to artistic freedom of speech/expression in Japan. |
The industry would've been dead if they included anime and manga into the bill, but thank goodness someone in the Japanese govt does have a brain and know how not to destroy their precious industry.

Sexualizing children is reprehensible no matter what form it takes. Innocent nudity is one thing, but we all know that's not what gets put into anime/manga these days. But trying to impose such standards on the anime/manga industry is probably a losing battle. Best to go after the real life stuff.

Or said precious industry happens to have really good lobbyists.
