Maybe Lord 3DS, because while Mario Kart 8 sold well, Wii U's hardware numbers are disappointing. |

Yeah, and all the other console sales continue to sink in Japan. Well at least I'm happy to see Infamous: Second Son ranking high on Japan's chart. |

Did you miss the part where it was the highest selling console in the region? |

Selling 19,000 units in a period where a 350k seller launched isn't really good. 3DS still sold more when you combine the LL and regular model too. Mario Kart is one of the marquee titles for the machine, and its week 1 sales indicate that the majority of people interested already owned a Wii U. That's a scary thought given the platform hasn't sold well. Hopefully Mario Kart's small boost to hardware won't drop off next week. |

Here's Siliconera's take:
"This Week In Sales: Even Mario Kart 8 Can’t Help Wii U Sales"
I think, if not for the 3DS, Japan's video game market is contracting. |

3DS hardware sales are down huge in Japan from what they were last year. Software is still selling, so that's not all bad news. The only platform up year-over-year is Vita, and that's because it didn't so very well in 2013. Its gains are far from enough to offset everything else's decline.
