Wow. Just wow.
http://blog.wired.com/tableofmalcontents/2007/05/japan_establish.html This guy's bias is completely shocking to me. I know it is just his own personal blog and not an actual news source, but still. I don't think I am interpreting it incorrectly. What do some of you guys think about this? Edit: Sorry if this is off topic or not allowed, feel free to delete or lock it. I just found it interesting and wanted others' reactions. |

Look back at some of the previous posts. It's pretty clear that its supposed to be a joke. With that said, I think this is the first time I've seen tentacle rape associated with manga as opposed to anime.

Hmm, I had a small feeling it might have been sarcastic and a joke, but I'm really no good at telling it apart from when people are being serious.
![]() Thanks for the clarification! I think you're right about the whole manga vs. anime tentacle rape thing. What mostly comes to mind is hentai, not manga. Even though manga can be pornographic as well, but a lot of people don't realize it I guess. |

Finally, something relevant to my interests is getting respect ![]()
I'm the same way. It's way too easy to misinterpret someone's words on the internet. Still, I didn't find his post very funny. I knew he couldn't be serious but his attempt at sarcasm sounded more like ignorance to me. |

Hm, maybe that's why I misunderstood what he meant. I really didn't think it was too out there that it couldn't be a serious statement, because I have read some comments made by people who absolutely HATE anime and they followed along the same lines as his. So I really did think he could have been serious, but I just misinterpreted it and embarrassed myself. heh.

The guy is obviously biased, nowhere does it say in the article that he quoted that they were going to award it to a tentacle porn series. They haven't even started awarding, what a dumbass.

Yeah, what I gathered from it was just that they were going to be giving a "global manga" award kind of thing. He just seems to be mocking it by saying that all the people who create their own series around the world just make tentacle porn. Or something of equivalent quality. I think that's what he's getting at. Not that the Japanese are really awarding tentacle porn.

Dude, its a joke. You know, "Oh manga/anime, that Japanese thing where school-girls have sex with monsters?" It plays on the common stereotype that all Japanese comics are pornographic and fetishistic in nature, and judging that his blog is part of a tech site I'm going to assume he understood his audience would be familiar with anime to some degree and could get the humor. Lets all just walk away now... |

Don't think it's quite funny when we know what he's talking about. When it says "Tentacle Porn Rape", you think people are going to read manga then? This thing can be seen by the entire world. |

While we're at it lets make it illegal to ever poke fun at a racial stereotype. Do you really think a single news story on a satire blog aimed at tech geeks (most of whom are undoubtedly familiar with anime) is going to somehow gain enough circulation to hurt manga? |

I'm saying that with all the stereotypes and mass hysteria/panic that's going on, you never know what people may think or say out loudly about something they don't know about, and they're just talking. |
