A live event celebrating the release of the No Game, No Life opening theme single "This Game" by Konomi Suzuki has cancelled the handshake with fans portion of its programming on Thursday due to "various circumstances." In addition, event staff will be performing checks of guests and their belongings.

In other word (and it's obvious) that "various circumstances" literally translate into the incident with AKB48 as the motive for the cancellation.

I always thought that they don't shake hands in Japanese culture.
They bow to one another.

That is correct, but when it comes to idol in Japan, they always shake hand with their fans. That's why they have handshaking event in Japan is common.

Also it looks like other idols handshaking events is also being cancelled or postphoned as a result of the attack on AKB48.

When you pander to crazy fans, eventually you will have to deal with crazy fans. After the latest incident I assume security will be beefed up for a while.

I'm sure there are plenty of "normal" fans too, but it Japanese idols tend to get a lot more dangerous attention compared to Western pop idols.

Hopefully, but I have little faith in J-idols industry when it comes to security.

We don't necessarily know that. Even though he didn't have posters in his house, there's just no knowing.

I expect more events like this to be cancelled in the foreseeable future, it's too soon and not in the best interest of idols, managers, or the police right now.

And yet you and others are implying that he was in order for it to fit your narrative. Rolling Eyes

I thought this was because of what Brian Hanson once mentioned in his Twitter about a fan who.. ehh.. I'll put it in spoilers, because it's messed up. About a fan who spoiler[covered his hand in his own semen before shaking someone's hand.] That'd turn anyone off shaking hands for a good while.

but but No Game No Life is the most genius and most perfect anime of the season, how could there possibly be anything wrong with it.

Actually in all honesty the show has managed to reign in pretty much the most annoying and over the top fan types I can conceive of. I don't think that has anything to do with why this event was cancelled so much as the whole AKB48 slashing incident.

Ignoring the sarcasm - No Game No Life is actually one of the better shows this season...but this season is also really good.

Also every show has over the top fans, the type of show it is doesn't matter - there will always be people who say 'X is the best'. The chances are they said that about something else last season, it makes no difference to the events etc that will be held for the show. Don't use something like this to vent your own irritation at those people, whether you like the show or not.

Even Hollywood types have to deal with stalkers, weird fans, and other deranged fans. Security couldn't protect America Ferrera or Brad Pitt. When it is your business to entertain the public, that means you have to deal with the public.

Once a little bit of time has passed, things will be right back to normal.
