I'm in the middle of playing it; I got to a point where Aurora actually grew up and can handle the sword's weight! But yeah so far the rhyming scheme is a little clunky (unless Rubella attempts it and fails miserably which is always amusing), and I wish there's a little more interaction moments among the playable characters. But those haven't deter me how beautiful and fun this game is!

I already bought it, but I'll play it as soon as I'm done with Xenoblade. I've heard many good things about it, but many people complained about the excessive rhyming, I'll wait and see. But I tend to dislike when games take a nice idea too far, I hope this isn't one of them.

This seems like a cute game and an interesting take on Sleeping Beauty. Too bad I don't have any of the consoles needed to play it!

Sounds interesting but it has Ubisoft's stamp on it, who are on my s**tlist, so there's no way I would ever buy it.

Do you have a decent PC? You could download it off Steam and play it.

Got it on Saturday afternoon and have just finished it today and its a very beautiful game that really spoke to the part of me that loved JRPGs 10 years ago.
Got the deluxe edition for the poster mentioned in the review as well as the other goodies. I feel bad now that its all over thought, i cant help but want more but its nice to know that game developers can still make this kind of game even if they don't often do so.
The story and characters were nice too though the rhyming thing was kinda pointless and a bit crap in many a place but given the way the story is being told its supposed to be a bedtime story so I guess it was a decent ascetic.

I was really excited for this game, I usually try to keep myself as much in the dark for story based game because trailer have an habit of spoiling there entire story (I knew most of the big twist coming into bioshock infinite before even playing just from official stuff and that really ruined the game for me), so I was excited about it until one week before release when I heard all dialogue were in verse, my excitement for the game immediately disappeared.
I really don't understand this choice, nobody remember fairy tell for there verse, they remember the story. Why they would chose to tell the story in a very clunky and limiting way is beyond me, but I never liked poesy in any form. I suppose people who are really into it finally have a game for them, but it's painfully clear that this game is just not for me. In a way I really hope it does well so that more JRPG will be made in the west, but at the same time I can't bring myself to buy it now at full price because of that.

If that's all it took to push you away from this great little game you cant have been that interested in the first place.

I'd consider guaranteed bad dialogue to be a really big deal, doubly so in a story focus game since it'll really taint my enjoyment of both character and story. Maybe if the review had come out saying the gameplay was extraordinary, but from what I understand it's extremely shallow and very easy, with the different spell and ability being little more than diversity for diversity sake. That's not surprising, I can count on one hand the JRPG with some amount complexity and challenge in there basic combat system, so I'm not considering that to be a negative, but it doesn't redeem it.

Shouldn't reviews at least mention the platforms on which a game can be played? I don't see that anywhere in this review.

Right at the top of the article, just under the title, it says:

The fact that it's Ubisoft/U-Play and has day 1 DLC out the wazoo justifies writing it off entirely by namesake alone, but aside from that the unappealing art style, shallow itemization, and annoying rhyming style don't help sell it either. Story and characters are pretty forgettable too, which is made even worse by you can only use one party member at a time, and in an RPG that's just a deal-breaker for me. I'm not sure why games like this and Stick of Truth do that. Inexperienced developers who can't program fights with more than a couple people on screen? Or just laziness? Not entirely sure..
The indie retro platforming gimmick also feels forced. I know 90% indie games have to be retro platformers by law, but it seems out of place. Though from what I've been told they just used a platform game's engine to make this, so I suppose that's why. They should have taken a page from Super Paper Mario if they wanted to mix the two genres because as it stands now it just feels like a regular RPG only the world is 2D and far more limiting.

Err...you can use two characters in battle and the flight mechanic mostly negates some of the more tedious platforming aspects

The party is certainly an interesting blend of characters. It is a shame they aren't explored in more finite detail, but I guess that would require the game being longer and more complex, something that would probably make it overstay its welcome (though I wouldn't mind a few extra hours tacked on for the sake of more characterization). After all, and speaking of Grandia, Grandia Xtreme suffered from this one grand flaw, just to focus all of the player's attention on the battle system. It was a major slap in the face when compared to Grandia and Grandia II, which both had such amazing casts who developed in strong and believable ways.
One of its many pros is the wonderfully atmospheric music. I can never get enough of the battle themes. They sound epic and capture that fantasy story feel perfectly.
