"Have you heard of Hatsune Miku?"
Seriously, though, I'm really excited for this. I really enjoyed the first one on PS3, and I hope this gets a physical Vita release as I tend to enjoy my rhythm games on the go.

Almost twenty years ago, I didn't know how to explain my anime fandom to friends and family who didn't know such things existed, and it was a long, slow struggle uphill, usually involving subjecting them to rather bewildering new experiences.
Now, I find myself trying to explain my Miku fandom to friends and associates who don't know such things exist, and I'm feeling the same conflicted feelings.
(Especially since they don't usually play the games.)

The play station Blog stated that it will be getting a physical Vita release. I'm surprised they didn't say that on here

It's the second sentence in the article.

Did they? Anyone who wanted to play whatever the hell this game is could easily import it, there's very little in the way of translation. Which is probably the reason it is brought over. Yakuza games are in no way as import friendly.
But whatever, they don't sell and I guess this sells enough peanuts.
Please someone save us and bring the good Sega games like PS and Yakuza.

This is probably the best pure rhythm game I've played in years - it also helps that the games have a large following willing to spend a lot of money to see the series happen. Also, since the costs are so low to produce the localization, why not take in some extra money? Especially since the only thing they translate in these games are the menus and tutorials - the lyrics aren't even translated in the game (even though they really should be)!
It also helps that Hatsune Miku has turned into an International brand (albeit still niche) where we're seeing translated artbooks with the different vocaloids released by UDON, a freakin' live concert in LA back in 2011 (that was sold out w/ them even selling a BD of the concert), and the viral marketing from people discovering the Dominos Pizza commercials, people finding out where the Nyan Cat song comes from, all the different people making their own songs using the Vocaloid software, the freakin' Google Chrome commercial that used one of Hatsune Miku's songs, etc, etc., etc. There's just a ton of factors that makes discovery of the series increasingly easier with each passing year.
I'm sure we'd all love to see Yakuza 5+ and VC3 come out from SEGA as well, but that's just not where the paying market is right now. Hopefully things like this cost little for SEGA, they make some money on the side, and are then more willing to localize and produce more "risky" games like Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza. I'm sure these kinds of campaigns at least goes to renew the idea that if there are enough fans speaking out that about something niche like this, these kinds of releases can continue to happen.

These games take less time and money to localize compared to something with loads of text and voice work, like Yakuza. I kind of feel the same way, but the games aren't really comparable outside of coming from the same company.

Maybe if they license some of these for Rock Band or Guitar Hero that they play on Dave and Busters..............

Those are like so long ago though in music world that the momentum has slowed down since. Still, Sega can use those profits to later release their critically acclaimed games for street cred, like Hollywood studios do with their tentpoles for Oscar films.

This made my day. I was recently debating whether or not to bite the bullet and buy the Japanese version. It's not like these games are impossible to play without a translation, but I definitely consider having everything translated worth the wait until fall. It's nice to have all the lyrics romanized, and I don't have to try to memorize the layout of all the menus or have gamefaqs open in a web browser every time I want to play. Plus, the X and O buttons do the "right" thing in the localized version. It used to drive me nuts when I'd play Project Diva 2nd on the PSP and then switch over to the localized Project Diva F and fumble through all the menus. Cursed muscle memory.

I'm glad to see Sega finally bringing the games over. I just REALLY REALLY hope they bring over the Project Mirai games next.
