Yeah, I agree it was beautiful but what's the point?
Honestly, we all know this guy is a great director. But why the hell is he working with just CMs and not a full length film? If he had done Dareka no Manazashii some back story, I am sure it'll be a great slice-of-life film/series. Was he an underrated director domestically in Japan so nobody wants to sponsor his works? |

Amazing looking stuff just for CMs.
It's rather the opposite. The sponsors are who he makes the commercials or shorts for. Nomura Real Estate sponsored Dareka no Manazashii and you see their 30 sec ad in the beginning of the short (...was there also product placement?) I can see making CMs or sponsored shorts as a good second source of income. |

I really like 5 cm/s, it's actually my favorite movie. While I do think these projects are nice, I do hope he makes a full movies sometime soon.

Woah. I see nothing but beauty. Absolute beauty. Shinkai's art is really amazing, and actually I'm glad Masayoshi Tanaka is the character designer. Shinkai's gradually getting better at character design, but some of his first works have a relatively unattractive character designs, so, yeah...
Anyway, I saw saw a series of good animated commercial for property agent, but I think I never saw anything about it posted here or anywhere outside Japan. They made it really good and the storyline actually made me think "Hey, this should be a series instead of just a CM, seriously." The voice actors are amazing too. Is it worthy of an article here? I feel like he will, but only time will tell I guess. Most of his projects tend to be fairly short. I don't know if that is a product of the insanely beautiful animation, or just his narrative style. Maybe both. It would be nice to see a new movie from him in a couple years that is at least over a 60 minute run-time, though. |

Looking beautiful as always. Shinkai makes beautiful animation but none of his stories are memorable.

Of course Shinkai would be doing a commercial for a communications company when the man seems to incorporate the theme of long distance into literally everything he makes. But I'm sure this will be beautiful; certainly a very good way to spend two minutes.
