Wonder what the hold up is; a rights issue? No potential audience (not like that's stopped BD releases before)? If they have the film, it should just be full stream ahead.

Because it is one of my all-time favorite OAV or anime TV shows, this news makes me very, very sad. El-Hazard needs more love.

I bet they discovered the film was not in good enough condition for the transfer...

Either that or whoever they hired to do the new transfer somehow destroyed it in the process, which would be a tragedy.

One of the more sensible theories is that the number of preorders didn't justify selling El-Hazard and El-Hazard 2 seperately, so an indefinite delay gives them time to finish up the second OVA series and re-list it included - like the Tenchi OVAs were released.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I don't care about the other El Hazard series but Magnificent World is the best. This is a tragedy.

On the Rondo Robe site, the release date is now listed as:

December 31, 2049

Oh well, I guess the quality of the film was not good enough for transfer. If its true, its sad they didn't take care of this series better. El-Hazard: The Magnificent World was one of the first OVA's that I saw.

Very disappointing news, this is one of my favorites. Hopefully things will eventually resume and it will get picked up to be released here. I'd definitely double-dip for this OVA.

I don't understand why this, which is basically a Tenchi Muyo production staff spinoff, gets a BD, but not Tenchi Muyo itself.

The 92 OVA series has had a BD since like what, 2008 in Japan? The movies from about the same time as well. I think just Universe and Tokyo are left.
