Apologies if this is unwelcome, but the recomendation thread I thought I once saw seemed to be a figment of my imagination. Or in the anime section Question

With manga such as NGE, Battle Royale, Death Note and Claymore, I like to balance things with less serious stories- Azumanga, Excel Saga, Angelic Days etc.

Yotsuba&! does look to be interesting, but the preview hasn't fully caught my attention (humor wise) like Azumanga. Obviously this is because it has more of a narrative and needs to introduce the story. As someone often found snickering or grinning (at the very least) when reading Azumanga Daioh, would you recommend Yotsuba&! for me? Is it funny, and what exactly is the situation with future releases? (Is it back being released again, as stated on Amazon?- Volume 4 etc)

Cheers and thankyou

Yotsuba&! is all different kinds of cute. Honestly, I love it. I'm not always a fan of CUTE CUTE ZOMG KAWAII EEEE stuff, but, like Azumanga, Yotsuba is great.

The most enjoyable aspects of it is her completely random imagination. That is mostly the story line, Yotsuba running around, discovering new things with her neighbors, a guy name Jumbo, and her dad, and playing games. Hahaha, honestly, I hope my kids are as weird as yotsuba some day!

It's also set up like your average manga, as apposed to Azumanga's parallel panel thing it had going on. The art is simple but good.

Anyways, I'd definitely recommend this title if you enjoyed Azumanga. I can't wait until the anime comes out.

Even though you already ordered them, I'm still going to second the opinion. Aside from being cute, it really is quite hilarious. And if you like that, I'd recommend Dr. Slump as well. Yet another cute, but funny story about a girl discovering the world and all its idiosyncrasies.

Yay my purchases might arrive tommorow Razz

Also in the interest of not spamming this board with threads needlessly, I have another question.

Genshiken
Angelic layer

As well as Slayers have all caught my eye (due to release schedules I can currently only purchase Bleach and Excel Saga- and i get bored Confused )

Slayers I do plan on getting. Is Genshiken as interesting as it sounds? I don't mind slightly 'pointless' stories.

Angelic layer is my main query. Chobits looks to be amusing (and cute) of what I've read and watched so far. A preview of angelic layer did amuse me, but I haven't been able to fully grasp whether I would enjoy it based on this sites synopsis as well as wikipedia.

As you may have noticed, I'm currently focusing on finished series Idea

Thank you once more for any help

Yotsuba&! feels roughly ike what you'd get if you created a story focused on a very young Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. If you liked the off-the-wall Osaka stuff in Azumanga, you'll probably enjoy Yotsuba&! very easily. I also apreciate that Yotsuba&! is very approprite for younger readers, too (at least through volume 3), in content, where Azumanga was clearly aimed at an older, just-out-of-highschool generation. Which isn't to say that it's necessarily a children's manga, just that it's the sort of thing that you can show parents who are worried at the content of the comics their kids are reading as evidence that there are positive alternatives out there.

When I was working the children's library section, most parents either thought comics were completely brainless or downright morally harmful with no redeeming qualities. Having something good to prove otherwise with is very nice. Of course, that's a bit easier when discussing works for older readers...

I would say that if you like AzuDai, you'll like Yotsuba&, because both have the "concept humor" thing going. In AzuDai, it's Osaka's eye bubbles, or Tomo's obsession with juice as a taikusai prize, or Yukari's drunkenness. No punchlines to the jokes, but the concepts themselves are funny. In Yotsuba it's cicadas and global warming.

Oh, and apropos of nothing, but the php font has a frickin weird looking ampersand.

Manga has revealed something. Deep within my 17 year old husk of a being exists a child who loves cute things. Yotsuba is such an adorable story and character Very Happy

Also has this happened for anyone else? 1 and 2 were perfectly normal, but 3 had a removable plastic folder on it (I left it on). All three came from the same order and in the same parcel...is it just something new for ADV media or just a random oddity?

It probably would be good to note in here that word has just come out (check out the ADV titles started up again thread for more info) that Yotsuba& vol 4 is coming out soon.

I just received volume 1 from Amazon yesterday and I already read it. That was quite the funny volume right there! "Glow Ball Warming!" Mr. Green Good stuff. I'd already love to see this adapted into an anime.

I've been so focused on finishing Nausicaa I still haven't got around to reading it properly. And I seem to be saving Azumanga. I've flicked through both, and I still find Chiyo-chan to be more adorable Smile

In three weeks I have no exams, and I might find myself reading two certain cheerful series to pick myself up...
