Shocked I am not sure where to begin on this one.

First off, I was surprised they could even dub this anime, wondering how they could possibly cover Kobayashi's dual voice patterns. Then I find Monica Rial has been given the honor, another surprise though I think she has the range for it.

But the real elephant in the room: the return of Jessica Calvello!

I think I need to re-buy this.

She's been in a lot of Sentai stuff recently, good to see her back as a regular though. Loved what she did in Excel Saga before she stopped.

I haven't heard Calvello in anything in a very long time, besides Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, so this'll be nice.

And Rial is utterly fantastic in everything she's in, and whenever she's not, it's usually the director's fault coughMawaruPenguindrumandStephenFostercough. I have almost no doubt she'll sound great here, too.

Very glad I procrastinated on buying the current release. Now I won't have to double dip.

I'm a bit surprised that Maria Holic is getting an English version.
Since I found the story to be interesting and a bit comical, I've decided to put this show on my Want to Watch list. Smile

She's in the Girls Und Panzer dub and she gave a fine performance. The real real elephant in the room: Will they ever get a good performance out of Caitlynn French?

"Chris Ayres is directing"

So close and by close, I mean not close at all.

I love the original Japanese voices, but I'll give this dub a try

I really love Maria Holic and it's for lack of a better word "bitchy" humor Laughing

Maria Holic a a great show, as well as it is visually stunning, and I hope the bluray does it justice. I love Monica Rial, and I hope she pulls it off, she is my favorite American VA.

I already own the original sub only release, but I will probably double dip on this one.

I dunno, I thought Rial sounded just about the same in the second half of that dub, the half that Scott Gensch did the ADR work for. Like, she switched between two distinct voices for Himari and The Princess of the Crytal when she should, and I thought she did a fine job holding those different voices throughout most of the series. Sure you're not projecting a little too much here...?

Anyway, though I don't care much at all for yuri or gender-bender as genres, Maria Holic has nonetheless been one of those shows that've long intrigued me but haven't, ahem, received the honor of being watched by me yet. Wink Maybe the dub could help me get into finally satisfying that curiosity.

I'll be honest, I've only watched 2 episodes of the dub, and while I can't give my full thoughts on it, I've always thought Rial should've played Ringo instead.

Please, PLEASE someone fix Chris Ayres' direction. The man is a self-professed perfectionist and has been working in anime for eons: his dub direction should be amazing but it struggles against even the stuff Sentai outsourced to Bang/Zoom. Is his direction of stage plays hurting his direction of anime?

I share your concern of French and extend it to Molly Searcy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for greatness, and I'll give this a shot but I wish it were a sure thing instead of a forlorn hope.

If someone could get Jason Grundy another shot at direction, I'd appreciate it.

I loved the Sub voice cast and thought the anime was funny. Would have to try the dub to see.
