That's pretty cool, especially since she drew her own Manga...Maybe a shot into Mainstream agian for anime...

Yeah I guess so, considering she made her own Comic.....Basically she's trying to hit as many different groups so that they'll all buy her new CD. Has anyone seen her now that she's gone preppy? It doesn't even look like the skatergirl....she lies.

I wouldn't consider her really having "made" her own comic...she certainly didn't draw it and the person who did has never even actually met her.

Go watch her music video "Girlfriend." She's just as skatergirl now as she always was. And even though she originally hated wanting her fans to dress like her, now she's starting her own clothes line. And for someone who claims to have "grown up", I think "Girlfriend" is the most immature and obnoxious song I ever heard. Dare I say it? I actually think Avril is worse than Britney Spears if only for the fact that she thinks being spunky means stealing the boyfriends of geeky girls that never did anything to you. I used to think Avril was a decent but not really anything special singer but that Girlfriend song left a very sour taste in my mouth. What's worse is that the melody of it is catchy so I can't get the freaking thing out of my head.

If you look at the make5wishes site, there's 8 episodes of animated-manga on there. The art is okay, but it's very sketchy and looks like it was done in a hurry. Sometimes the eyes appear lobsided, which bothers me a bit. Other than that, it's okay. The story is generic... I hate how she put herself in though. I mean, it's okay to put yourself into a manga you payed for the creation of (or created yourself, which she didn't actually do), but she could have at least put herself in under an alias! Using her actual name by the character makes her seem like she's very selfish...

Super model Tyra Banks get a talk show, Chef Rachel Ray gets a morning talk show, and now wanna be anything popular Avril Lavigne has a manga. Next thing you know Oprah Winfrey will have an anime series depicting her role as the anti-christ and her rise to world domination with her general Dr. Phil. Can't wait for that piece of animated gold.

That's true. She tried to make a Spanish version of "Girlfriend" but it's actually Spanglish and her "Spanish" completely SUCKS. They obviously only taught her how to pronounce those few words in the song. And they didn't even get the translation right. (I'm a native Spanish speaker, so I can tell).

I couldn't agree more with you. People get all pumped up simply cause the beat is catchy but it's depressing to see how they're not even thinking about how disgusting the song's theme is.

I happened to be Bar crawling last night for a friends 21 birthday and that video came up. And so at 1:30 AM I was talking about how Avril sold her soul, and dye her hair blond. For someone who was so against the pop-star look that exactly what she is.

I find this thread hilarious. Really, I do.
Everyone here is trying to say that because Avril Lavigne has said that she wants to be the anti-Britney that that means she has to create deep, meaningful songs that define the human existence or something. Please. She's a pop musician, fer crissakes....her job is to write catchy songs, and she does just that.
As for how she's the anti-Britney/anti-Jessica, please note the operative word in that last sentece: write. She co-wrote every single song on her last two albums, writing all the lyrics and crafting melodies with cowriters, mostly her guitarist Evan Taubenfield and her producer Butch Walker (who is a great musician in his own right....go buy his new album "The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and the Let's-Go-Out-Tonites!"...you won't regret it!).
As for the theme of her new song, stealing other people's lovers has been a theme of pop songs since long before Avril was alive, I see no reason to hate on her for that. Yes, her entry into the world of "manga" is remarkably pandering and commercial, but this thread seems to be judging her under more stringent guidelines than I think is appropriate.

The fact that she writes catchy pop songs is besides the point. I actually normally like catchy pop music. Her old music was ok but It's that she claims to not be slutty like Britney Spears is yet her new cd is just as trashy and generic as anything Spears does. Lavigne used to hate it when her fans dressed like her but now she has her own friggin' clothes line. So much for her so-called beliefs in individuality. I don't care if songs about cheating have been around forever. I still find it disgusting that Avril is preaching to kids that it's ok to steal somebody else's boyfriend just because you think you're better than everybody else, especially since she's supposed to be a married, mature adult or so she claims. Furthermore, I wish she would just drop this fake skatergirl persona. Newsflash to Avril: going around jumping up and down in tight shorts singing songs about cheating does not make you "punk." It just makes you a Britney Spears clone.

I don't know how much she's "preaching to kids" anymore....her new CD is supposed to be pretty laden with profanity. I don't think she's aiming for a young audience so much as aiming to the same girls that bought her first CD when they were 10-12 years old and are now 16-18 and out there stealing other girls' boyfriends.

Hear hear!
I was shocked at the music video. She's all over this girl's boyfriend, and they end up in a public bathroom stall (!) to do who knows what. (Actually, the boyfriend's expression is kind of funny, he looks embarrassed and mildly apologetic when Avril's hanging off him. )
Oh, and you fellow Newtype readers will get a full page ad of Avril goodness this month. (Nowhere is safe!)

How about we not even judge her music period and focus on the manga. This is an anime/manga forum, and not a pop music forum after all. That being said I look forward to this manga as much as I do my first colonoscopy.
