I don't know how I feel about this.

I really liked Rune Factory 4 and the thought of the IP being handed to someone else gives me pause given that this is a series that has greatly improved as it went on.

(maybe the situation is not as bad as it seems... SOMEONE PLEASE RATIONALIZE IT TO ME)

No rationalizing can be done. It's never good to see this happen. I just hope the Rune Factory IP goes to someone who can make good use of it. Not someone who will butcher it.

^ I just hope the RuneFactory IP survives. I've been looking forward to a new console game after Frontier and Oceans...guess it might take a while (or never happen at all).

Sad news...I really liked RF Crying or Very sad

To the both of you, there may be less cause for worry than you think (although of course it's all still rather uncertain).
Marvelous does and always has owned the Rune Factory IP (Neverland just developed the game), so that doesn't change. Also, the producer of the games, Yoshifumi Hashimoto, works for Marvelous, not Neverland. And most of the key staff (director, character designer, scenario designer, composer) have done work for other companies before, and in any case will now be out of a job.
So all in all there is fair hope that Marvelous will continue the series (it was, after all Hashimoto who said that he definitely wants do do a fifth game, and he has always worked for Marvelous, not Neverland).

Since I've never owned a Nintendo console I've only played the once Rune Factory game - but I loved Oceans and would like to play more like it.

Looks like enough of their games aren't into buyers' taste. In which case, where would the financial incentive for them to continue producing such games.
