The originator's probably not doing anymore though. It's a whole different group of haters doing this. Since they saw the officials doing nothing, what did they have to fear? And they started hating on the female otaku crowd ever since the threats on the doujin events last year. At least it's making more regular news time so the law enforcers may put more effort this time.

If you read the original letters, the stalker (presumably still the same guy) who started this had a homoerotic obsession with the mangaka and basketball players and a fetish for basketball uniforms. He ended up hating the author for ignoring him after some unspecified incident and wanted an apology from the mangaka, and hated all the fujoshi who latched onto Kuroko and made doujinshi of it.

Wooooow. Now that's a reaction formation if I've ever seen one.

Police is busy monitoring share instead and catching "real big criminals" that dare share some anime episodes or manga, NOW THIS is a serious threat to society. Laughing

Anyway, by the looks of it, this will go for a while longer, possibly until shueisha orders the author of Kuroko to end it and then put the mangaka in the freezer for a while, this is most likely the only solution to end this for good.

Pressure will keep building up until retailers dont want to deal with Kuorko at all (i.e, is already happening) thus if not voluntarily forcing Kuroko´s termination in worst case scenario.

I would not be surprised f Shueisha is already pressuring the mangaka with "is kuroko ending anytime soon" "is the story near completion" "you should wrap the story soon"....

Kurobasu is selling very well and it is rated high. I think Shueisha will use this threat to sell the manga more. After all, people have been curious with Kurobasu and all this attention it is getting. So I doubt they would want to end it soon.

I have a feeling these threats tie up with the anime. Because these threats have been quiet after the anime has ended. It suddenly came back when season 2 started. Having an anime makes a manga more popular anyway.

Nonsense. Kuroko no Basuket is currently one of the best selling manga in Japan. There's way too much money involved in this for Shueisha to do such a thing.
And discontinuing the manga wouldn't do a damn thing.
Firstly, this guy is clearly crazy and will just continue once the manga continues.
Secondly, such concessions would simply encourage this kind of activity in the future.

Shinoda noted that in one of the letters he received, the sender, again going by the name "the Mysterious Person with 801 Faces," explained that he/she was inactive for a while in sending threats because he/she was in negotiations with Kuroko's Basketball's publisher Shueisha and the Weekly Shonen Jump editing department, but the negotiations broke down.

Unless he/she was somehow negotiating anonymously, one would think that there would be a way to trace things back to that individual, as communications would be more direct compared to mass postings of mail.

It is selling well no doubt. But it is not indispensable, much less in a magazine like shounen jump and shueisha overall.

The reality is retail stores are stopping selling Kuroko merchandise, including the manga and anime:

Code:
...... The Circle K Sunkus store chain is also considering suspending sales of the merchandise.

Major rental chain Tsutaya also confirmed last month that it is removing all Kuroko's Basketball DVD and manga rentals from its stores. Japanese bookstore chain Yurindo and Reliable, a Japanese book and stationary store chain in Hokkaido, are also removing Kuroko's Basketball merchandise from its shelves. Several other bookstore chains such as Kinokuniya, Sanseido, Junkudo, Miyawaki, and other bookstores, plan to continue carrying the manga despite receiving threat letters.

Well, shueisha has one less big client in the name of Tsutaya, so much for selling more. The Tsutaya blow is quite significant.

Good that other are not falling into the pressure but Tsutaya has a lot more to risk than smaller bookstores.

Its selling well, but not quite one of the best selling manga in Japan.

There is so much money involved that a giant like Tsutaya has stopped all kuroko dvd/manga...again, not indispensable. Understandable thou, no worth risking it for one series.

((((The only active manga currently which would be worth risking it for all others for its insane sales is One Piece, the second place dont even come close to it. This is the only active series that could be indispensable right now))))

And dont tell me you believe all the cancellations and the above are no indication of encouraging this kind of "activity" NOW, let alone the future, the threats are being quite effective in the case of Kuroko.

If big chains like Tsutaya are willing to pull the plug on Kuroko, as sad as it is, I can see it ending in the near future if things go one like this and more retailers pull the plug as well.

I guess the negotiations were related to Kurokos termination in the near future and Shueisha did not want to do it so soon, at least at this point. OR it was to not allow anymore Kuroko anime, this indeed started with it .

You're insane if you think Shueisha is not going to protect a property that sells like Kuroko just because it doesn't sell in OP numbers. That would be stupidly bad business; regardless of OP's insane sales, it alone can not carry a company as big as Shueisha. Incidentally Kuroko was the number 2 manga seller in Japan last year, topping Naruto, Toriko and Bleach. There is literally no way in hell they're cancelling it just because of this.

My guess is Shueisha is trying to take advantage of the whole situation (there is no such thing as bad publicity, right?). The second season of the anime was green-lit after this whole thing exploded. The threats so far have been very petty and baseless, probably Shueisha won't even make a statement unless it becomes more serious (maybe now, after the Tsutaya thing they might)

I am fully aware that Tsutaya has pulled out Kurobasu DVDs etc. Ofc, it will be a blow but it does not mean that Tsutaya is the only place that sells Kurobasu. A huge chunk of Kurobasu's fortune comes from the merchandise it spawns -- figures, keychains, the likes. Fangirls collect these things. This incident started last year and it didn't hinder the series popularity.

Sure, Shueisha has One Piece. Naruto and Bleach are not selling as much as it used to. So Shueisha is really banking on Kurobasu. It may not sell as much as Shingeki no Kyojin or One Peice, but you cannot deny that it does sell A LOT. So if they are cutting it soon, they better replace it with a good series that can equal its sales. Honestly, the only good one they have produced recently is Soma and that is mediocre, imo. They also need to sell their magazine and not just the volume as well. Removing Kurobasu is just one less reason to buy Weekly Jump and just wait for the volumes.

I do think Shueisha is handling the situation poorly. As far as I know, they haven't released any statement about it. They should at least speak out that keeping it quiet.
