Wanna be the Strongest in the World! Plot Summary: Hagiwara Sakura and Miyazawa Erena are the leading members of a popular idol group Sweet. One day, Erena is injured by the attack of a female pro-wrestler Kazama Rio during the recording of a TV program. Sakura gets mad at Rio and gives her a dropkick. To avenge Erena, Sakura enters the female pro-wrestling matches. 12 Episodes Sports, Action, Ecchi, Comedy Ep. 1 It is pretty much what you thought it was. Maybe with a little more orgasmic screaming than you might think, they did repeat the same scene twice after all. Erm, not really sure what else to say tbh, art is what it is, animation's OK, sound is, well, mostly screaming. At one point I actually thought I'd made a mistake and is was about to break out into a porno. It didn't, but it might as well have. Honestly, I'm surprised Funi hasn't picked this up yet, seems like classic Funi "we don't have anything and we need something" material (I'm looking at you Maken-ki!). crunchyroll has it, so it may end up going to Sentai. And of course, hardly anyone will give a crap or bitch about it like they would if Funi got it

Like I said in the preview thread in the Talkback forum, I like the visual fanservice and I like the story, but the depictions of pain and humiliation are off-putting to me. I really hope that element becomes less pronounced as the the series goes on or it'll be tough for me to stick with it.

I basically came in with rock bottom expectations. When I saw it...
...yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaahhhhh, it was still worse than I thought. The plot of idols being wrestlers is absolutely retarded, and considering the nutty plots of many cartoons I've seen, that's really saying something. Perhaps it could've worked if it were comedic, but we're clearly supposed to take it seriously. If its mauling of suspension of disbelief wasn't bad enough, the animation is choppy, a lot of plot bits are cliche, and what isn't is just excuses for torture porn, what with the horrific screams of pain and unnecessary tits, ass , and snatch shots. And the crowd spoiler[just sits there, and a few sick bastards actually take pictures]! So yeah, this just pissed me off to the point where I was actualy screaming aloud at my laptop several times. The only reason for me to keep watching is to harm myself, and considering I enjoyed Outbreak Company, I think I'm just watching to balance out the actually good (and hopefully Gingitsune is good as well). Pray for me, people. |

this is definitely a show you will need headphones for. One one hand I like that she is determined to do this, but also incredibly stupid for this pride thing going on. I'm with Blood-, this is a little uncomfortable at times, but I'll stick with it for now

I thought this was based on a manga by the Ikkitousen guy but I guess I misunderstood. That said, it still seems like it anyway so no real problems found.
People may find this odd of me to say ever since I declared liking extreme violence in anime and having played many Black-Cyc games, but I don't like seeing girls humiliated for fanservice purposes or put into painful situations by somebody who's not an outright evil bastard. Yeah, wrap your mind around that one. Disembowled? Fine by me. Crying for the camera? No good. But even ignoring that point I still can't find much to like here. The girls have good bodies but they're also very generic bodies. I mentioned somewhere else here that I wish more animes would take the effort to draw muscle tone on characters that are supposed to have it, and vary their body types beyond just who has the bigger boobs. And this show had the ultimate chance for that but I guess the art team isn't up to the task. The premise is likely the strong point of the show, as it is fairly good. But I'll be amazed if I go the 3 episodes and decided not to drop it. |

That submission move sure looked painful. Was it a sharpshooter? I am somewhat knowledgeable about wrestling moves since I do watch a lot of WWF back in the old days and sometimes recently as well.

Yeah, I grew up with it too. Heart Foundation, Ultimate Warrior, etc. I stopped watching about when Kane was new, then saw a few arcs here or there in the Rock/Steve Austin era.
Damned if I remember most of the moves by name though. LOL. |

Ah those were the good old days. I wasn't around for the Ultimate Warrior part though but anyways, I do wonder if they will incorporate some of the other professional moves/finishers in this series later on. |

A friend of mine who still follows WW...E (LOL) once said that all the physically possible moves have been done and named 50 different things. So by default I guess they'll be using real moves, because using unofficial moves would mean they're unrealistic. LOL.

Nice fanservice show. Love the mix of pro-wrestling and fanservice. Reminds me of Rumble Roses the ps2 game.

Episode 1
I could have done without the idol thing, I expected wrestling but not AKB48. It seemed the major issue was that the wrestler did not want to be looked down on, but then she was a hypocrite and looked down on the idols not knowing what sort of things they go through. Although probably unrealistic that this will be something that seriously talks about the sort of sacrifices that either job would do, or be empowering. I tend to be against such extreme scenes being used for fanservice. But I would be lying if I said that I had not had an interest in past for looking up anime styled wrestlers for the hotness. I know that sounds terrible, but it is not like I am saying violence is okay or anything. Not quite a fan of the hentai like sounds, although I might not exactly hate them. |

No need to worry if it sounds terrible or not. You're an anime fan on an anime forum. We've got siscons, lolicons, futacons, gurocons... it's a "comrades almond comrades" place so no need to worry about what you like. I say be out with it. Elsewise it'll come out inadvertently in a post later and you could be embarrassed if somebody calls you on it.
I went on an anime female wrestling kick once when searching for my true waifu sub-gendre (wrestler girls, sentai girls and mecha musume all do the bodysuit thing. The logical progression makes sense now, no?) around the time Rumble Roses came out. I eventually passed on it because of the focus on public humiliation and pain but I'd be a dirty stinking liar if I didn't say toned anime girls in those outfits weren't awesome. I was overjoyed when the Touhou Tag Dream Tribute fanart started flowing in. And it's not like real pro wrestling isn't loaded with fanservice, so if it's gonna happen I'd rather it happen with fictional people. I feel the same with my other niches too. |

The fan service and screaming in pain was just too much for me.
Seriously, spoiler[that whole "Hold of Shame" scene] WTF? It's sad because the main character was kind of interesting. I might revisit this at the end of the season if people think it was any good / the above issues are toned down, but for now I'm out. |
