I love the series so far, really do. I think its briliant, very well executed, and is a very good story. Hell, I even like how much effort they put into making the English sound like it has an American accent in the Japanese dub. However, I just finished episode 21, and I cant help but find myself frustrated by the female characters the main character associates with.
Maho really irritates me. She is completely oblivious to what her friends and her actions do to effect the main character. Not only that, everytime she sees him with another girl, she gets all pissy and disapeers for a few episodes only to come back with the same issues. Im really hoping in the next 5 episodes something happens with her constructive.
Speaking of which, the gymnastics girl who is learning guitar...so far there really hasn't been a point to her existance other than to piss Maho off. Also, Im hoping by the last ep something happens with her different.
It feels like FMA, great story but the female characters are simply brushed aside through most of this, hoping it doesnt end the same way.
[EDIT: Fixed the spelling. I know it may seem anal, but I like to spell BECK as opposed to Beck to differentiate between the anime and the actual singer. -TK]

Well, finished it today, and was very happy with the ending and was glad they actually resolved the issue with the two characters in question. I heard rumor that there was suposebly supposed to be a second season to this? No such thing I believe, guess it was just rumor or got dropped?
Defently gonna have to look into the manga to continue the story, I love it.

I hadn't heard anything about a second season, but I'd about die if they made another one. I'd be as excited about that as I am about Berserk season 2! Glad you liked the ending...but remember, the manga goes FAR beyond the anime and the characters continue to develop and grow beyond what we saw on screen. So definitely read the manga.

No season 2, sadly. I heard the manga is slightly dissapointing as well. But I need to read it anyway, as I really didn't like how it ended without expanding on the America arc (if you can even call it an arc). But still, BECK's my 2nd favorite anime.

the "gymnastics girl" become more of Saku's love interest later in the manga but still doesn't play that large of a role (at least in what I've read so far). With the anime airing on TV in Canada maybe they'll discuss a second season if there's a large enough following in North America. There's plenty to still be animated.

Does the OST have a majority, if not all of the songs they either played or listened to during a majority of the episodes? I really enjoyed the "Typhoon 24" song, I know that's not what it is called, but it's pretty much the only lyrics I can remember.
And I also really enjoyed the cover of "I've got a Feeling" done by the Beatles, and I personally enjoy BECK's cover of it, over the original.
I know these questions should be asked under the "Music" section, but since there is already a thread going on here, I thought I'd ask here anyways.

From what I remember, the anime's soundtrack is strictly all of the songs on the OST. There's nary a single bit of actual background (instrumental only) pieces, as the only time you ever hear anything is when they're singing or practicing. I feel this adds an even greater sense of realism because the characters and drama stood so well by themselves and didn't have to depend on horrible "theme music" with sh***y synth or whatever (*cough* Flame of Recca).
Here's hoping FUNi will at least have the first OST in a Special Edition Vol.1 or something.

There are currently two OSTs for the anime, one called BECK and one called KEITH.
The BECK OST contains all the songs you heard in the series, while the KEITH soundtrack has songs performed by the original artists, so they're different versions from the anime.
Rest assured that both songs you are referring are included -- the "Typhoon 24" song is called Spice of Life, as well as I've Got A Feeling -- I highly recommend picking it up, well worth it

Well the anime ending of BECK seems to leave an opening for a 2nd season which I hope for. I saw some where (think it was Youtube) that some time in april i think that the 2nd season will come out. It has to relate with the black dude who got convicted for murder etc. but not entirely sure.
I really enjoyed how the show turned out but ya....there should be more of a female character development of maho and the gymnastics girl. Just hope there will be more because the series had really good music.

Just a brief interjection:
1. I do not believe there will be a second season.
2. I do not think Maho has "issues". Most of her behaviour is quite reasonable behaviour for a teen of her background. In fact, I think she is, if anything, somewhat more innocent and naïve than she pretends.
3. The "gymnastics girl" is named Masuoka Hiromi. Come on, how hard can it be?

But Ryuusuke pisses me off. He's a self-absorbed prick.

Koyuki DID sing a whole song with just her name
Besides for trolling, just wanted to add that the dub isn't terrible. The trailer on Funi's site was offputting at first, but after watching the first 2 eps, it started to grow on me. There's the slightly annoying pronounciation issues (TAH-nuh-bay) but its not bad at all really. At first, Izumi's slight "valley girl" seemed weird, but it's actually pretty appropriate. Ganguro chick (can't remember her name - Izumi's friend) sounded about right as well. Ray sounds a bit old, but not entirely out of place. Koyuki has a bit of a Bobby Hill gravelly sound thing going, but its ok.
For those who didn't see, they redubbed the angry drunken Americans in ep1. It made me laugh a bit, but its more natural and believable sounding now.
Also, it seems like they've redubbed all the songs. In ep2, Maho sings that "step into the night" song. Truthfully, the song sounded much better. The original was in "engrish" and hard to make out, but in the dub it sounded right, and actually, really good. I really want to here Chiba, and then BECK's songs. I wonder if we'll get dubbed/english BECK OST along side the orignal?
Manga wise, the US vol7 just came out from TokyoPop. I haven't picked that one up yet, but I think Koyuki will be getting his telecaster. I'm really liking this series - too bad it's released soooo sloooooowly.

I only have one problem with BECK, and it has nothing to do with the story (although Koyuki kinda annoys me sometimes) and the dubbing (but there are a few grammatical errors when Maho or Ryuusuke speaks in english).
Has anyone else noticed that when the characters are shown from afar they tend to look short and pudgy? Up close they don't look so bad, in fact, they're almost proportionate but from afar they look really different..
Kudos with regards to the detailed inanimate objects though. The guitars and cars look almost realistic..
