Actually aya_honda there was one time when there was a conversation going on between Akito and Hatori, which was after the incident with his eye. Course, that was just Akito saying stuff to him, Hatori never once opened his mouth. If we did see conversation with him and Akito, most of the time Shigure was around, except for the time when she revealed herself to the Zodiac members. As for Hatori not doing anything while Shigure is doing something, I'd like to point something out of this. It could be said that even if Hatori wasn't doing anything about, he is just as guilty as Shigure because they both know what's going on. Shigure is just the one getting his hands dirty at the suffering of many, while it rests on Hatori's conciousness of what's going on.

If I remember correctly, even Hatori's "conversation" with Akito, when he asked her permission to marry Kana, happened "off-screen." I'm at work right now, so I can't check and see. I bring this up because I think it's the only time in the series where Hatori willingly went to Akito for something, or at least it is in my reading. All the other times, Hatori is being summoned because she's not feeling well. I mentioned this before, but it must be terribly hard for Hatori to care for the well-being of someone who attacked and blinded him simply for fallling in love.
I apologize as well, aya_honda. I could have expressed myself better in my post. No hard feelings?

You know what? It's Friday evening and I almost went to bed without putting down the hint for next week's character. I must have gotten so lost into us talking about Hatori, tells you he's a great character. Anyways, here goes before I go to bed everybody.
Hint: She has just about gotten on Motoko and all of Prince Yuki's nerves, and is never afraid to call Yuki, "Yunyun"
BIG giveaway, I'll tell ya that now. Good night to everybody.

Thank you very much, fighterholic. I didn't remember that scene so thanks to bring it to my attention, not that with Akito it would be possible to make some conversation. Most of the times, she is just bullying people so I'm not very surprised that Hatori was just listening to her. I was just thinking that for the very first time I understand how tough it must have been for Hatori (thanks to murph) to take care of Akito. I mean that woman wounded him so much. For example I'm thinking at the fact that she was the one to half blinding him, then she destroyed any hope for Hatori be in love with a woman (she was the one that started to make Kana feel guilty of loving Hatori and of being unable to protect him). And still, in spite of all that, Hatori had to be by her side. I just can picture Akito starting to mack Shigure in front of Hatori, knowing that he is his best friend. Didn't he get ever tired of that?
Please, murph, there's no need to apologize. I think I drove you crazy since the moment you started to post here. sorry about that as well.
btw, fighterholic, concerning your clue: could be Kimi?

Shigure I think even with his getting flak from Akito knew what to say, and even better say things to get on Akito's nerves. Hatori knew this, and knew that there's tension between Shigure and AKito, so he would consider it a normal thing. We all know why Shigure left the Sohma house.
Yes, aya_honda, that it is

And with that, I'm going to go ahead and announce the end of Hatori week, and we are now going to go into Kimi Todo week. She makes her debut as one of the new members of student council of everybody's high school, and MY what a debut!! While Motoko Minagawa and her minions are trying to talk to Yuki, Kimi starts walking up to him and starts flirting with him and calling him, "Yunyun"
Characters related to Kimi:
- Kakeru
- Machi
- Naohito
- Yuki
- Prince Yuki Fanclub
Surprisingly besides Yuki she had no interaction with the characters that the story centers around. Perhaps because Takaya-sensei couldn't find a good time to do that or just she hadn't planned on it in the first place. Would have been interesting if she did have some interaction with Tohru.

An interesting pick this week fighterholic.
I could never tell if Kimi flirts with Yuki because she's interested in him or she just wants to irritate the Prince Yuki fans. It's also hard to tell if Yuki is just oblivious to her flirting or ignoring it.
I think Kimi's the type of person who knows she's cute and knows how to use it to get her way. When she cons the teacher out of the whiteboard for the student council room, Machi calls her a seductress. Maybe she was seeing how that power would work on Yuki, but since he's so used to rejecting girls (because of the curse) he doesn't notice. I mean, I doubt Yuki realizes he's the object of the Yuki fans' attention.
Still, there are a few scenes where Kimi seems like a deeper character. I hope the volumes I have yet to read can expand on Kimi a little.

I think that it was Naohito who said that. Anyways I found it surprising myself that she was able to convince a teacher to let her have a brand new white board, I bet you he would have cried like Naohito if he saw what happened to it Kimi and Yuki, he looked like he was pissed off when he was speaking to her for the first time, because of what she said and how she acted towards the Prince Yuki girls. But she didn't seem to be disturbed by what his criticism at all. She's a pretty happy go lucky girl, doesn't worry about much, and has a boyfriend, even with all the fooling around that she might do. Just amazing.

I have a language question. Kimi is always referring to herself as "Kimi" in the English version. For example, "Yun yun won't call Kimi by her first name," and "Kimi wants to be taken out for tea." I understand that referring to oneself in the third person is more common in Japanese, depending on the circumstances. However, the way it's translated into English makes me think Kimi takes that to the extreme, possibly to add to her cuteness. So, in the original Japanese, does Kimi always refer to herself as Kimi, even when a pronoun, like watashi, would be grammatically correct and proper for the circumstances?
Hope that made sense.

I think she did refer to herself as "watashi" when she was introducing herself and Naohito. But yeah, most of the time she calls herself by her name, especially when in front of men, because it's just a way to get a grasp of them But she seems to have a "dark" side you could say, because if Kakeru might say something about her she'll punch him in the stomach and tell him so shut up in a not so cute voice. And with all the flirting that she does she has a boyfriend (we never see him so don't worry).

The flirting seems to be just a part of who she is. Everyone who gets to know Kimi either ignores or puts up with it.
I remember that scene where she punches Naohito. That scene got me thinking that I have not seen the whole Kimi yet. I realize she's a side character, but I hope Takaya-sensei finds room in future volumes to give some backstory or flesh her out a bit more.

Whether you decide to read the spoiler is up to you. Unfortunately Kimi is one of the characters that Takaya never worked on for a background story or something was touchy and would make us think. Kimi never changes throughout till the end of the story, no character development or no problems that occur for her. In fact, to my knowledge, I'll have to go back and read it, but I don't think she appears in the last 3 volumes of the manga, if not four.

Welcome, cho_pop! Enjoy the thread. What volume are you currently reading?
fighterholic: You confirmed my suspicions. I figured she might not have time for the true side characters.

Edit: That's strange. How did this end up above the post I was responding to?

I'm noticing that after reading posts in the forums, they don't get marked as read. There's definetly a glitch going on here.
Anyways, I would have liked to see something about Kimi, but I guess it didn't work out, but we still get to see comedy from her and the student council together makes for some great comedy moments as well.
