Okay, I have never been to a convention before, but I finally can go to one, but I'm worried about the cosplay. I've even looked on cheap site to buy costumes, but they were soooooo much money! the cheapest I've found is 50.00! And I cannot afford that, with all the money I spend on DVDs........
![]() When I got to the convention, will I be an outcast if I don't cosplay? |

No, many people don't cosplay. It's prob cheaper to make the costume depending on what materials and fabrics you are using. I don't know about the con you are going to but at Anime North I'd say maybe two thirds cosplayed. Save your money and don't cosplay. If you want to then go ahead, but you won't be centred out if you don't cosplay.

![]() I went to my first con last year, and I didn't go in costume (unless you count my fleece panda ear hat). I'd say the crowd was 50% cosplayers and 50% people in street clothes. |

No. If you're not passionate about it then don't cosplay. Planning, designing, and making your costume are all key to enjoying it. It's not the same if you just buy your costume. Also, since it's your first con, just relax and enjoy it! Check out the cosplay scene and give it a try later

I think it depends on the cons you go to, but I think the 50-50 ratio is general rule of thumb. If you're not going to go to the effort to make your costume, MajorKusanagi, which is arguably the cheaper way, then I wouldn't worry about it.I've been going to AWA for a number of years and all but two, I've been in normal attire pending on the occasion. I agree with digitalkikka,
get a feel for the con scene, and the next time around you can go out in full force! Maybe ask some of the cosplayers where they got their costume materials... It might be an inexpensive question... |

Not everyone cosplays. Do not worry. I went to a convention in a sailor suit once. I would not call that cosplaying, really.

In my opinion, because this will be your first convention, I think you should just take it all in and not worry about cosplaying. There will be too much going on for you to worry about it. When I went to my first con, I was so excited just to be there that I didn't care what I wore. But, once you try it, it becomes really addicting.
