I stopped watching anime on YouTube after looking on the forums talking about how anime could die watching it for free. So I decided to stop spending so much on games on PS2 and XBOX and stuff so I can buy anime DVDs.

But I want to buy the anime that was only released in Japan and its really hard to find that even online. Is there any website where I can buy anime DVDs online or download episodes (and I mean leagally, such as iTunes)?

I just want to tell you that people like you (the ones who stop using youtube after hearing what watching anime on it does), make me so happy! I've never heard a person who'd been a big Youtube user ever say something like that.

As far as your question, I honestly don't have a good answer. I'm sorry for posting Dx. I have seen a few 'import' sites, but they all turn out to be bootlegs.... About the only place I know of it jlist/jbox, but they mostly carry borderline hentai stuff.

What do you mean when you say "anime that was only released in Japan"? If you're looking for legit R2 DVDs of anime series, then Play-Asia is going to be just right for you. Other than that, I don't know exactly what you're looking for. I hope I could help you out a bit.

Just to get you started...

http://www.amazon.co.jp
http://www.yesasia.com
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/

There are many others, but that's what http://www.google.com is for. It's typically pretty easy to tell who's selling the real deal because it will almost always come with 1-3 episodes for the equivalent of USD$40+ per volume. Legal downloads are also possible, but I'm not as familiar with those. DVD's, CD's and books can be imported from Japan into the US free of customs fees for reasonably sized purchases.

Jbox doesn't carry anything that's NWS, so hentai isn't going to be on there. Even jlist gives you a choice of what selection you want to view right at the opening page.

Well, you can download legally from ADV's store: http://www.advuniverse.com/ Most episodes are around $5 per download but sometimes they give you free ones too. I also stopped spending money on video games too, I'm bored of all of the ones I bought.

I think the ones at ADV's store are just dubbed though, right? Sounds like the OP is looking for subbed anime.

Hopefully the OP is looking for raw anime (yeah, right) or else there's not going to be much on offer at any of these websites that meets the specified requirements.

as far as I know you could always go to
http://www.ebay.com
maybe
http://www.zstore.com
or
you could always put money onto a gift card or credit card and then from a store
that the gift card is meant for.
