Wow, some people get the title of CEO in the con world? I'm missing out! We just have a con chair and department heads at the cons I work at (pretty much all of them in ohio).

That sucks though for those communities =/

I'm guessing with Anime Express its more due to the problems with ERAU, because I have NEVER heard of a torando causing any damage in Florida. We're too flat for them to touch ground, all we get is a slightly stronger breeze.

Ugh, the Garden City Anime Anime Festival is cancelled again? Mad

Bummer. I wanted to go this year, as I used to live there, and would've taken the opportunity to see friends and old accquaintances again. -_-

I went to Gen Con So Cal last year and attendance was pretty sparse; there really wasn't anyone there, but they'd booked massive sections of the Anaheim convention center.

Actually, I was visiting my family about 60 miles south of the Daytona area during Christmas break and a tornado did indeed hit the Daytona area on Christmas day, no less. Tornadoes are actually quite common in Florida, I think the state is something like #3 in the amount of tornadoes that hit every year.

In any case, I feel kinda bad for the people who run Anime Express. That's the risk of having conventions with school's help though, you risk having the school see you in a bad light if the convention attendees act up.

The economy is likely hitting a bust cycle & the first thing to suffer is often entertainment when belts tighten. Comic-con is huge & covers the entire field(lots of gaming booths). Anime Expo I assume has a certain amount of it, although I've never been (because I can't afford 2 cons in 1 yr & I don't need a hotel room for Comic-con). For awhile, we're probably going to see a lot of smaller cons cancel or merge with others to save overhead

The tornado really did happen, it damaged a LOT of buildings and a couple dozen planes. Yes, I went and saw the damage myself, and it's pretty serious.

So is that why AX is in Long Beach this year?

No, not at all. the Anaheim con center is booked many years in advance and the Shriners, i believe, booked it for 2007 a long time ago.

I couldn't help but smile when I read your comment. Smile

I believe they use the "Garden City" tag, because St. Catharines is known as the "Garden City." in the Niagara Peninsulia, AKA that little thing that sticks out of Canada by the Great Lakes. Razz

From an outsider's point of view, I'm actually a little surprised that the Gen Con So Cal convention would have such a small turnout. Surprised

Who makes the decision to cancel cons anyway? I know cons have con chairs and the people running different departments but is there one person in writing that has the power to do that on a whim? Just curious
