No. 6 is number 6, LOL!
I'm so glad it's successful. I think it's the first shounen ai to be that successful in the US, am I right? |

Ditto! I'm glad that No.6 is still in there and I'm also happy that Judge charted just behind Attack on Titan. |

Thanks for the uber slow release of Judge, Yen Press. I'm sure that will keep people interested in the title.

A volume every three months is uber slow? I thought it was pretty standard... (edit: every three months through next February, then every four months. still doesn't seem particularly slow to me.) |

3 months is pretty standard, even the popular Jump series are every 3 months. I think 3 months between is fair, especially when you compare to series like Berserk and Vagabond where you have to wait a year-two years+ for each volume.

Does anyone know how much does a manga have to sell in order end up on the NY Times best seller list?

Around 400 copies to make the list. Here are Bookscan numbers that represent around 70% of the sales: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-06-05/bookscan-manga-ranking-may-21-27 animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-06-08/bookscan-manga-ranking-may-28-june-3 |

400 copies is a bit low considering that the 50th place in the Japan manga list sold almost 28000 copies last week.
Is 400 high or was it higher in the 90's for Viz I wonder? In this age of 'free' manga everywhere, are sales down or up? The pro-download crowd usually tells us that free stuff helps sales but I'm not sure if this is true for manga. |

This is why people are saying that sales outside of Japan don’t really matter for the Japanese. To give you a quick example. Dragon Ball is the most popular Anime/Manga in the world. It sold 150 Million copies in Japan and 80 Million in the rest of the world. No other Manga will probably ever reach the popularity outside of Japan that Dragon Ball had. France is the second biggest Manga market. Here are some sale numbers for it: http://www.du9.org/dossier/meilleures-ventes-2012/
This is hard to say because there are no “official” numbers. Bookscan is also not official. Bookscan is basically the American Oricon. It is a service you can subscribe to if you have the money and they say they cover 75% of all sales but some say it is less. However it is good indication for the scale of sales. There is a certain someone who analysis those Numbers every year plus there are Bookscan total sales there of Comics and Manga if you are interested: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=43773 Basically the market had a growth until 2007 and since then a decline. |
