Yes, Al Kahn. Make some crappy trading cards or whatever you want to do. Just stop ruining anime.

With all the troubles they've been having lately I think that they might lose money on this... I hope this fails big time and fails to meet expitaions...

Wow, that's a lot of venom first thing in the morning (well, it's first thing in the morning for me). I understand that 4kids is teh suck when it comes to importing anime, but this is a different venture that will likely (or rather, should) involve a different set of people in the trenches.
It looks like they at least got a decent manager to run this venture. Time will tell if they get actual game designers to do the grunt work or just transfer their already unpopular anime adaptors into positions for which they presumably have no qualification.
Wishing the entire company fails seems kinda harsh.
(And no, I don't work for 4kids and I don't know anyone who does.)

I wonder what cards they will make. Do you think they'll take over Yu-Gi-Oh?

Wow, 4kids is busy lately. 2 headlines within a week.
Anything as long as it's not anime.

I think the new trading cards from 4kids will be similar to Magic: The Gathering. Only it'll be kid-friendly (despite their name). But I wish Al Kahn wouldn't ruin all the good shows.

When I click the link in the article it can't find the press release, but the link in the PR section at the right works.
Do we really need yet another TCG company, there's already a half dozen of them. Not many of their shows are card game friendly (not counting Yugioh) and I don't see them licensing any new franchises to make games out of so it seems like for the time being they've only started the company to produce Chaotic. I guess this explains their "Year of Chaotic" campaign for 2007.

Couldn't agree more on this, Emma. When I first read this, I thought, "oh geez, who could've POSSIBLY guessed 4kids would try an' make money off of TCGs?" I mean, c'mon! It's not like this is a new trick; TCGs've been popular since Pokémon (as far as kids' interests go, I believe), and now since 4kids (AKA - "the anime butchers") aren't doing well, they've decided to jump on the proverbial band-wagon and market out some half-assed, okay-looking card games for little kids who wouldn't know to go for the actual GOOD TCGs already out there! *sigh* Such a waste of paper. Truly, a dark day for all anime and non-anime-related TCG fans alike.
Not to be ghoulish or anything (deriving happiness from others' misfortune), but I deeply hope that 4kids' newest 'milk the kiddies for all they're parents are worth' scheme crashes and burns. Royally.

Apparently you're unnaware of how poorly Yu-gi-oh was handled early on. Even sets without good cards would have an 8 or 9 card pack overpriced by a dollar or more when the game first came out due to shortages, they got playtesters/mentors and then didn't listen to any of their advice, and they drove away wholesalers/retailers/customers with their shoddy distibution practice. Overall, the game stood to be even more of an asset than it was in the early stages and the guy you're calling decent is the reason. He doesn't reall yknow how to run that sort of business.

But it works so well when the Japanese anime companies do it!

Now, now. Let's not point out the fact that 4Kids isn't any different from the people whose products they license. You know, the peopel that don't actually care that they've made changes because they don't revere it as some untouchable art so much as a means to make money.

Well that's nice, but hell if I care. I actually use to like some of 4kids' "anime" when I was younger (and oh so naive), but after I learned what the original shows were like, I felt almost ashamed to've even thought remotely positively about 'em 'til now! (I know that sounds unreasonable, but I don't care! They're just so ignorant!)

The thing is, for every person like you that enjoyed the show as a kid and then hated it as you grew older there will be many more kids that will favor the 4Kids edit as "their" version. As I'm typing this I'm watching my Votron DVDs, a series that was so hacked together even 4Kids would have probably called it heavy handed, but it's the series I and many, many others know and love. I may be interested in seeing GoLion and Dairugger, but it'll never replace Voltron for me. I'm sure in 20 years many of those kids that watched and loved 4Kids Yugioh will be wanting box sets as well.
