This sounds absolutely incredible. I hope this results in more tie-ins. PVC figures with Pocky, perhaps? That'd be an expensive box of Pocky though...

Enthusiasts may be reluctant in opening and eating the Pocky, because since it's limited edition stuff, they want to keep it in "authentic" condition.

Awesome, Pocky with a 1/144 scale Gundam model. Cool, where can I get some?

Kusanagi-Kei: I got into eating Pocky after watching Please Teacher so your avatar is extra relevant for me.
I'm not very familiar with Gundam, so exactly how small and intricate a model are they talking about when they say it's 1/144? Also, are they planning to attach the model in a separate box or will it be like a cereal prize, the model inside amongst the Pocky sticks? Will they be having new Pocky flavors for these limited editions? |

If those boxes are anything like Gundam-related candy merchandising I've had in the past, the model will be in the box with the Pocky, ala cereal packets. And a 1/144 scale Gundam model is about 5 inches (approx 12-13cm) tall.

Looks like they're just using normal flavours.. (Men's, Original.. though I'm not certain what the last flavour in the white box is..) |

1/144 scale are generally in the neighborhood of five inches in height. What concerns me is whether or not these are High Grade (HG) 1/144s or "No Grade" 1/144s. The difference being that HG 1/144s are of much higher quality, require far less paint (if any at all) to look good, and are very articulate, whereas No Grades are molded in maybe three colors at the most (meaning break out the paints and expect to be a while), and articulate about as well as a stone statue. Basically, if you pay more than $4 for a No Grade, you're getting ripped off. And given how the promotional images I've seen have shown solid-color model kits, I'm none too thrilled.
According to Gunota, the flavors featured are the ultra-thin chocolate (with the RX-78-2 Gundam), regular chocolate (with Char's MS-06S Zaku II), and men's chocolate (with the standard MS-06F Zaku II). Personally—and this may just be based on the crowd that buys Pocky on this side of the Pacific Ocean—I find it highly amusing that these Pocky kits are being aimed at "the 30-year old male demographic." Again, it may just be the fact that you only ever see squealing teenage Japanophiles buying the stuff over here, but Pocky doesn't exactly strike me as an "adult's" snack food. |

I never tasted pocky but this seems like a good idea to have gundams as pocky holders. I remember that there were Pokemon candy (and PEZ), Yu-Gi-Oh! Go-Gurt (did I spell Go-Gurt right?) and heck, they even had other food products based by licensed titles
Let me guess. These pockies will be dark, bittersweet an mature chocolate candies. EDIT: finally fixed the link thanks to dam-whateverhisnameis. Last edited by Riyousha on Mon Nov 27, 2006 9:48 pm; edited 1 time in total |

I love that title. Kudos to whoever made it up.
Edit: how fitting my 100th post was on my favorite food. |

Hehehe. I posted in this topic because I like Pocky. Although, Onegai Teacher didn't get me into Pocky. Instead, I've always ate Pocky ever since childhood, and Onegai Teacher merely gave me extra "incentive" in eating it. *hehehe* Weird, I know. There was a time when I liked Pocky so much that I wanted to keep the boxes for each different flavor just for collection sakes. Soon they got in the way and took up so much space, and I threw them away. I recently ate a fantastic flavor of Pocky, I'm not sure what flavor it was but it was a mix, the "Gokuboso" mix. (Me = Pocky enthusiast) So many flavors and varieties, bring 'em all on!! |

I agree with Nagi on the fact that they better be High Grade models. If I can get my hands on one of these LE Pockys, then you can bet on me building the model. I always have been an avid fan of building Gundam models (looking at my Master Grade, 1/100 scale, Freedom Gundam right now ), so I'm hoping the models are something that would actually be of value to Gundams fans. BTW, Nagi, if you're a fan of building Gundam models, then I recommend GundamStoreandMore.com, if you didn't already know about it.
Anyway, I hope the Pocky will be available on Play-asia so that I won't have to look for it for a very long time on the 'net. |

I guess they figure if they sell some red Char Aznable pocky it will sell three times faster.

Even with the low quality pictures I can definitely tell these are not HG kits, they aren't even LG kits. At the very most these are simplified versions of the LG kits if the sprues on the background of the boxes are anything to go by. I'm not even sure these things are all that articulated, the arms look like they're just two pieces sandwiched together, you can see a seam going the entire length of the arms. The best judge of quality would be price, but there is no MSRP so it's hard to say. Wouldn't be getting too excited, these don't look like they'll be all that complex, but if they're just cheap candy toys then they might be fun to have.
