Princess Princess? Media Blasters going back to mediocrity? They've proven that with the success of such titles as Ah My Goddess and Voltron that they can handle bigger titles.
I've bought both the Voltron sets and the AMG DVD's and they've done a pretty good job at handling more mainstream titles. |

So once a company gets large enough they should just forget smaller titles and only get large ones? They can't do both? |

I'm all for Media Blasters focusing on the shoujo market whether the titles are A grade or C grade.
With each release Media Blasters really are proving they are a company of quality. |

Well, I'm happy they've got PuriPuri. Sure, it's not the greatest show ever, but it's-jam packed with traps in Goth-Loli dresses and that's good enough for me. I just hope MB doesn't give this a sub-only release like they've done for their BL anime, since despite all the cross-dressing PuriPuri hardly even qualifies as shounen-ai (or whatever you want to call it).

THey lost Ah My Goddess. Oh well. They said they're making enough on Voltron, they can focus on bringing over the B titles other companies ignore & those of us anxiously awaiting them snap them up. 12 Kingdoms was CANCELLED in Japan, but I'm grateful MB brought it to us. And Princess Princess is completely a title they would bring us. Like their other yaoi titles, they probably won't bother to dub it-just release it subbed as they did Sukisho & Loveless. They're bringing us Gakuen Heaven. They know they can package it at minimal cost & the fans will buy it. I pre-order all of their yaoi titles even though I know they'll box it pathetically swift-I just don't want to wait. It also often goes for the $15 range price at Best buy, etc & they give us all the Japanese extras like interviews with the VA's, etc. |

If the Princess Princess anime sells well, what would the chances be that MB could license the live-action version?

Also I read on Anime Suki that Media Blasters licensed Girls High, Noodle Fighter Maki, and Girl meet Girl. Anime Suki got their info from AnimeOnDvd.

I read the same thing about three days ago, and asked how old the news was in another post here, and everyone ignored me. >_> And every anime news source seems to have ignored the indirect announcement John Sirabella made on the AoD forums (well, now Anime Suki is acknowledging it. Took them awhile). Which leaves me wondering - does anyone (besides me) give a shit about these three anime? And "Princess Princess" technically isn't BL, but I think they're gonna try to market it like that |

Bara...Don't worry, I'm sure lots of people care.
I'm very pleased to see Kashimashi was licensed; it's certainly not the greatest or most entertaining show this year, but it's fluffy and sweet, and occasionally addresses important issues like loving somone regardless of what they look like or what society wants you to feel. If they were looking at shows from earlier this year I wish they had chosen Kamisama Kazoku instead, as it is also cotton candy fluff but has the engaging and empathetic Tenko as the heart of the series, which makes it so much fun to watch. Not so thrilled for PuriPuri, although I can understand perfectly why Media Blasters wants it, as it fits in nicely with their other aquisitions. (Even though it's definitely not yaoi and hardly even BL, it's still fangirl fodder. Rather boring fodder, but fit for fannish consumption all the same...;- ) I didn't like the anime (even though it featured my beloved Paku Romi and the adorable Fukuyama Jun, I still couldn't watch it), but I do quite like the monumentally ridiculous live action version, especially since it's a Marvelous Entertainment production so there are lots of Musical Tennis no Oujisama boys in it. Hee. : ) I doubt there's any chance of MB getting the live action as well, but it certainly would be an amusing addition to anyone's collection to show off just how weird japanese tv can be. |

I don't think MBwould have problems getting the license for Princess Princess. The anime is already licensed here in Europe (France to be more specific), so there's no reason why it shouldn't be released as an R1 as well.

Hard to say THey do have some pretty interesting titles in their live-action catalog. Probably depends on how well the anime does. It's a title they might consider if they think they can get by releasing sub-only, thus saving the dubbing cost. I know I didn't expect much from Tales of Terror from Tokyo, but the first one had a couple very freaky segments-scarier than all of Ring 2(I do mean the US one) DMP just released the manga & a majority of their titles are pitched to the yaoi audience. I just finished Rin & until one hits the short(like 4 pages maybe) additional comic at the end, all one gets is 200 pages of angst, hugs & 3 or 4 kisses. All Princess Princess needs is 1 kiss--these boys are, according to the synops, being set up as the objects of desire for the other boys in the school, so the angst is covered. I have a decent-sized collection of anime & manga-not all of us go for the A titles. A titles have their drawbacks as well, one being they are A titles & thus often not as interesting as some of the B or maybe even C titles if one will. I look to MB to provide those overlooked titles like Here is Greenwood & Master of Mosquiton. I really expected them to bring us Tactics if anyone did after ADV dropped it & was very shocked it was Manga(since it's also not exactly a typical Manga title). I find most A titles fall into my "OK" pile unless they're older like Saint Seiya or DB/Z. One Piece in Japanese is very good, but we'll probably never see it released uncut here in the states. If Naruto didn't stretch everything out, I'd probably enjoy it more-every reaction scene seems twice as long as it needs to be. Realistically, if MB focused on A titles, I'd have more money in the bank & a much smaller collection. I was set to get the box on Loki until ADV actually included the Japanese VA interviews on the extras, but the title I'm most interested in of theirs right now is Papuwa which isn't an A title. |

I just wish they'd go ahead and release the stuff they've already licensed and dubbed. Like Phoenix.

I guess it's settled then: no dub. But, you know, they were dressed up as women and were wearing make-up when they made out, so I'd say that qualifies it as a lesbian kiss. PuriPuri is way yuri-er than BL in my opinion. |

I wouldn't call it angst to be set up as objects of desire in PuriPuri. The only one who had a problem with that was Mikoto, albiet that it was that he had to crossdress more than anything (he has a complex about his looks). Yuujirou and Tohru were fine, if not had fun with, that. The only angst that was presented in PuriPuri were family issues. But I agree that PuriPuri isn't BL, although it has BL stands, mostly because Tsuda-sensei is also a BL manga-ka under a different name (her doujinshi with Eiki Eiki-sensei [who did Dear Myself] of Gundam SEED, YasuRyuu [Yasahii Ryuu wo Koroshikata (How to Kill A Kind Dragon)] and Death Note are hilarious and full of win [and very much BL]). She switches pen names to indicate if the series is BL or shoujo, since she's using Mikiyo Tsuda, it's a shoujo series. DMP isn't marketing PuriPuri in their June line either. However, the anime will market it as such due to the promos which are very BL at times. But the live action PuriPuri D is very unlikely to be license because live action shows ultra-rarely get licensed in the first place, plus as much fun PuriPuri D is, it's not very good. |

If being forced to wear a dress isn't angst for these boys, then it IS BL.
And if stupid Amazon would just ship it, I could find out. But the angst ref was related to Rin where our hero can't make it thru stressful situations without a hug from his older brother's best friend, so there were all the angsty issues of the boy needing a hug-another boy offering to do the hugging & kissing him in front of the hugger so the hugger cut the hugee off.....Not angsty enough? They're teens. They can't make it thru the week without melodrama. My 16 yr old sure can't. And I still say MB has an interesting catalog. They seem to license what they feel like. I have some pretty strange live action titles from them. Would they license the live Princess Princess? Probably not, but they might if they feel the anime does well enough. Most of the live Japanese stuff I've seen is pretty laughable compared to what Hollywood churns out-like maybe student film level As for sub-only, yeah it's nice to get dubs, but if the choice is sub-only or nothing because they don't see an audience for it, then there are a lot of titles I'd rather see subbed than not at all. Like the rest of Saint Seiya. (hate vibes go out to ADV) THere's still a lot of unlicensed yaoi & BL titles out there as well as some bishie harem stuff like Angelique I'd take subbed. I'm sure a lot of Sailor Moon fans would take Stars subbed if Toei would license it to someone |
