Now how exactly was this person able to do this? I thought that your avatar could only be 80 x 80 and less than 6 KB. Was there a glitch in the system maybe?

I saw that too when I came to ANN this morning. I was like this when I saw it. It troubled me because I wanted to see her avatar to be 80x80 not EXTREMELY BIG. So like Tony K. explained to her, she has to resize that avatar to 80x80 or else she'll be banned.

If you don't download to the site I believe the only thing it looks for is file size. So as long as it is under 6kb then I think it will pass. I didn't see the picture so I can't see whether or not it was or not, but I am pretty sure that is what happened.

Nope. The picture file, named rose.jpg, was 84.0 KB (86,067 bytes) with a dimension of 625 x 500. ANN's avatar limitation seems to have been disabled for offsite pictures since the forum update, and admins are looking into this issue right now.

625x500 would probably be bigger than any non-joke avatar I've ever seen.

I've seen some 1024x768 gag avatars though. >_>

A lot of people don't know how to resize images to make avatars so just link to random wallpaper or whatever on someone else's site. Normally the forum would specify size tags so the browser would resize it on-the-fly (which would not reduce the filesize but would make the image look dreadful).

Well, it's their probelm for not taking the time to do a search for "Image, Resize" on the internet. Heck, this board has a few guides if people only take the time to look, be it not much time becasue their one in the "Teh Rules" board. Linking a wallpaper is just plain laziness and stupid.

Don't confuse laziness and stupidity with ignorance.

Many people online nowadays don't know what a pixel or kb is.
