I was wondering if they did because whenever you look at the ending credits it looks like there are scenes left out.

Not unless the scenes are suppose to be for the ending credit only. However if the show has in fact been edited I feel like I've just been ripped off. =(

So does anyone know?

I would be very surprised if Geneon edited anything out. They've never had a reputation for doing that.

I'm with Key. Plus like you said, lots of opening and ending credits have scenes that you never see in the anime. That's just the way it's done.

Opening and ending themes aren't always made up of scenes from the show. It's quite commong for the OP and ED to have original scenes rather than just using the source material.

It's true. They don't always match, and often it's deliberate to avoid spoilers. If you've ever seen any of the FMA openings, you'd know what I mean; they were the king of that.

Hmm, that's true. However, apoun seeing the anime it did raise the question in my mind, not just for Gankutsuou but other animes as well.

I agree the only thing that can be looked at is the questionable dub, otherwise the series seems to be uncut. And quite frankly I am not sure why there would be an edited version, there wasn't any talk of this series making it onto TV....

It's kinda like how certain Shounen titles often times will spoil the entire next episode with the preview....."Goku dies? Next time on Dragon Ball Z!"

The scenes you're talking about are probably from the little music video trailer they made before or right when the series came out. I forget which volume it was, but there's a feature in the extras that plays a trailer to some music with various clips from the anime, the ending credits, and what I believe were just some sporadic animated scenes to attract viewers. It's not edited. They just never intended for some of those clips to be in the anime in the first place.

The Gankutsuou TV series as we got it was the same version the Japanese got. In that sense, it's utterly uncut. However, the ending credits do feature a lot of footage that was shown in the early trailers for the series which ultimately made it to the cutting room floor during the show's production, as various scenes got changed around or revised leading into the final product. A sword/pistol duel between the Count and Fernand, several shots of characters in anguish, some rather provocative shots of the crowd during the Lunar Carnival, and some rather interesting shots showing several prototype character designs (most notably Andrea's) are most prominent among these.

If I may be allowed to do so, this clip on YouTube shows many of those scenes much more clearly than the ending credits do. I still can't help but wonder if the green-haired woman in lingerie was an early design for Villefort's or even Danglars's wife. Guess we'll never know.

Indeed, Geneon is one of my favorites companies. The only exception I can think of is the old Trigun OP credits which was recently remedied.

Scenes in the OP/ED that don't show up on the episodes is very common. FMA and Bleach are the two openings I can think of right now that includes scene in the OP that's never shown in the anime (or the manga, in the case of Bleach). As what others have said, they're probably scenes that were cut out from the original entirely, and are shown as a kind of extra during the OP/ED.

Speaking of cutting out, I don't get why they didn't cut out the ending entirely. Would've been better that way. O.o

Just for fairness' sake, shoujo anime do this as well, often with episode titles...

Sailor Moon #45: The Gallant Last Battle. Death of Sailor Warriors
Sailor Moon #198: The disappearing stars! The death of spoiler[Uranus and Neptune] (I'll be kind to those who haven't sought out Sailor Stars)
Fushigi Yuugi #33: spoiler[Nuriko,] the Eternal Farewell
(not really a spoiler if you've done as much as read the titles on the DVDs...)

Yea that is correct I just whent with the DBZ reference because most of us remember that show.....but in general there are lots of spoilers in the previews for anime shows.
