A friend of mine has a region 1 player and he invited a few of us over to watch an 'American Licences' weekend. Now I have a collectors itch and don't want to get just any old american release...I want a proper region 2 English release (so UK and Europe as well as Japan) otherwise it wont feel right. Now onto the real reason for this thread. I saw Stellvia, and I absolutely loved it but after a search for anime DVD's I couldn't find a UK release for it...only a crappy region 1 American one...

So essentially does anyone know if this series will be given a UK release? Or any websites I couold go to that have this kind of information on this title or others?

I am not shure how popular anime is in the UK. When I was over there last year i could not find any anime at all, not even manga. So I doubt it, unless someone licences it.

It doesn't look like it's getting a UK release anytime soon. You can check Anime UK News: UK Release Schedule for upcoming UK releases.

ETA: Nothing to do with Stellvia, but it looks like they just started releasing Requiem From The Darkness (Hundred Stories), check it out if you get a chance, it's one of my recent faves. Good combination of story and art.

If you want to collect anime in any serious way then you might as well give up if you only want R2 UK releases.
I would be a lot happier if I could buy the anime I like in the UK but the number of anime series released over here is extremely limited and buying R1 releases is the only way to build up a reasonable collection.

It's a pity you don't buy R1 as you could get the entire 8 volume set of Stellvia + 2 other random DVDs for £50 from TRSI at the minute as the whole series is in the sale.

Just import from the US.

It will save you time and money.

...it's like no one reads what I type.

I don't want to import US DVD's. I want UK releases as that's what I am collecting.

Several people have read your post and answered you. You just haven't looked very carefully. Spend more time reading the posts and less insulting. Just in case you don't scroll up then I'll answer you as people already have. There is no plan for a U.K. release anytime soon. There's a link above for U.K. releases. Check it out. Anime just isn't popular enough in the U.K. right now for them to liscence every title that comes out in the U.S. The same applies to us here, there's plenty of Japanese titles that never even get brought over here. If you want the show that much then face the facts. You'll have to import them. If you can't except that truth then stop complaining. You can either import it or wait until god knows when for it to be liscenced there. If you don't like that, tough. Go complain to the companies that liscence anime in the U.K. and not here.

Though theres no reason to insult I think the comment hentai4me made was directed only towards Area88 he didn't read hentai4me's post and posted about an american release.

I think everybody read what you wrote, but it's hard to collect what doesn't exist. I'd have to agree with Area88 if you want to be practical. And it's not like Stellvia is the only thing you're missing out on by holding out for UK releases that might never be.

I know the desire for products that simply don't exist. I want an English release for Galaxy Express 999 on DVD. So far it seems rather unlikely. But, I'm about to write a letter to a few anime publishers and do my own part to get the word out that I want this available to me. Maybe you should do the same. It may not work, probably will not in fact, but at least you did more than 99.9% of anime lovers out there just by making your feelings known to those in charge.

Another thing I'm considering is buying the limited run of Super Gals Season 2 (sub only) to help get the point across to TRSI that small runs on some series are worth the effort and cost.

In the end where you buy it from shouldn't matter as long as you get the anime series you want.

Although importing from the USA does beat the UK at everything...

* Cheaper Price
* More "Extras" (collectors boxes, limited edition items etc.)
* More Choice
* Available Earlier
* Better Video Quality (terrible Ntsc to Pal conversions on UK release DVD's)

Deja vu?

@hentai4me: I know what you mean, I'd much rather have the UK releases than import from the US. I haven't heard anything about Stellvia being given a UK release, but you might find this thread helpful if you're going to be looking around for information on series getting released in the UK.

I can understand how the UK fans feel about preferring a UK release instead of having to pick up a US copy. I'm a fan of many of the recent films that have come out of the UK, but sometimes when I'm watching them I sort of wish they had a US sub so I can understand certain things better without having to look them up. I hope that UK distrubutors start picking up on the fact that there is a market out there for many future anime titles so that you all can enjoy them better.

Exasperation doesn't come across online very well does it? I'd apologise for what I posted earlier but it wasn't an insult so I wont.

Put simply I am collecting UK releases and I really enjoyed Stellvia and thus I wanted a UK release of said title. If I want to watch it again I'll merely borrow it from my friend who isn't as choosy about where his anime comes from as he has the US release which I can watch. While I want specifically the UK release of it if there will be one.

Thank you.
In all honesty, the amount of anime available in the UK seems to be growing about as fast as the market can handle, so I'm not realistically expecting many new series.
I'm still hoping that someone releases Kare Kano though Wink
