Amazing how the vaunted Blu-ray, HD-DVD are region coded and lack content featured on their dvd versions such as additional language tracks.
I wonder if the movie's DVD release will boost sales of the video game already released on the DS, PS2 and PSP. |

I'm more interested of who did the English dubbing. It's kind of rare for having a R2 bilingual release.

Actually, HD DVD has no region coding. Places that list it are listing the DVD region listing and assuming it applies. |

Wait, I'm kind of confused, I thought one of the main points of Blu Ray and HD DVD was that they could hold more info, so they get less content? What?
Let's see: Blu Ray + HD DVD require a more expensive player but don't even get all the stuff included on basic DVD releases. I'm shocked that these formats aren't taking off. |

Yes, but actually putting HD video on the disc uses up all the extra disc space, especially in the 1080p encoding they're using for this release. |

So basically they're using it up on a feature many people wouldn't use or really notice on an ordinary screen. I mean, really how many people has an HD tv they're so expensive... Mabye its just because I'm a university student...

Good point, but as I said I'm a university student I couldn't buy the player or disc either anyways. However in a general case the average consumer not that bright in my opinion. I'm sure there is at least a small percentage of people who bought the blu ray/ HD DVD player for the extra space on the disc assuming more space more bonus material with little image quality change. also there are HDTV shows out there just because I don't own an HDTV doesn't mean I can't watch the shows |

Is quite old but I actually have heard on many gaming websites that HD-DVD and Blu-ray movies were in fact region coded. Blu-ray for certain. If you could find a more recent reference stating HD-DVD had been decided to not be region coded I would appreciate it. I am not impressed by the so called next gen video formats. Blu-ray looks worse then most dvds and upscaling dvd players for 200 dollars beat it out in visual quality on standard tvs. Even on a HDTV an upscaled dvd looks better then a blu-ray movie. 99% of people cannot tell the difference between a dvd playing on an upscaled dvd player which costs 200 bucks then a hd-dvd or blu-ray movie playing on a 3000 dollar High Def tv. Basically you are paying for visuals the human eye cannot really see. HD-DVD does have some perks such as the behind the scenes features with a little window while you are watching the movie. Picture in picture. Also the 360 HD-DVD will allow 1080p on composite cables so you don't need a HDMI port or HDMI high def tv to get that quality. Over 2 million High Def tv owners in the United States cannot get 1080p visuals from HDMI since their tvs were manufactored before the standard was finalized. But quite frankly it's not any better then a dvd compared to a vhs. There is no huge leap justifying a format change. |

I've heard the current Blu-ray discs were rushed out, being encoded as MPEG-2 because they hadn't actually sorted out what they were using for encoding as of it. The next wave of them apparently will be using better encoding methods and such.
