Proving yet again that hardcore Japanese fans have shit taste in anime.
Update: This post got me onto the s*** otaku say on tumblr. I feel so humbled and honored by this. Last edited by Cecilthedarkknight_234 on Wed Aug 14, 2013 7:52 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Yeah, quite a few on Futaba seemed really incredulous that foreigners were paying so much money for a sequel to LWA.

I'm not going to dive into berating Japanese fans, but I am a little surprised that it seemingly has so little cachet over there. The girls are cute as Hell and it's a lot of fun. I'd expect that to appeal to more otaku than it evidently does.
I imagine that this is frustrating for the staff. Perhaps they'll join this to the success of the Kickstarter campaign and try holding an event at a western anime convention. (Come on world premiere at Otakon 22!) |

Maybe they should do these events for the West instead, to reward those who actually popularized this thing.

I don't imagine the the show lent itself to cosplay creativity, so maybe that's why it flopped. Or maybe it just doesn't have that kind of dedicated fanbase in Japan? I don't see the need to debase the entire otaku community because your favorite show isn't popular.

By "West" you mean the U.S, right? |

Why does Japan have such good taste? Only crazy foreigners seem to like LWA. It must be because of how LWA is similar to cartoons.
Thankfully people are speaking with their wallets on LWA, as Japan events are underfunded and English events are overfunded. LWA fans please enjoy next ova, the third will come out when disney buys trigger and begins marketing it solely in western markets. lol. This is about all you need to know for those people who were questioning if Trigger and LWA really was just a Western thing.

I think the animation looks too Western for them. That was what I was thinking as I watched it --- "This looks like a high-end American cartoon". This makes me wonder how Kill la Kill will do --- will it look too Western for their tastes? Or is it enough that there are sailor suits? |

I think a lot of them just see it as a tech demo for animation too... in the comments on sites like Yaraon and Akibablog, they talk about how its all style and no substance. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arUVpcGIIiA So I guess it wasn't as popular in Japan? That's a shame it really was a good short. |

Do you actually know Japanese or are you just reading biased translations and passing them off as fact? |

I'm not sure you'd call it biased, but I use google translate for the comments. Some things I can understand without google translate, like the normal insults they use for specific demographics, but thats about it. |
